Guest guest
Off subject...thank GoD!! We were all talking BMT then I saw Lottie post mention the thing in Vegas. Here's what happen (have many family there and followed story closely. A endoscopy center (do colonoscopys etc) reused their syringes and also same vials or medicine (not needles) from patient to patient. So, Patient A goes in for endoscopy and when they didn't use the entire syringe of medicine to sedate him they " saved " it for the next person. (all IV systems are now needless so you " screw " the syringe onto the IV port instead of puncturing the little port to inject medicine through an IV). Anyway, there is definitely excellent means to expose folks to blood born diseases like hepatitis and HIV. (Many patients of endoscopy centers are also have chronic Hep C or B and do undergo endoscopy screening like others do.) The county health department (that's what they call themselves!!) estimate that as many as 40,000 (lot of folks go through those endoscopy centers) people could have been exposed as a result to the above. They currently have 6 confirmed diagnoses of hepatitits from exposure. (all had had an endoscopy procedure at the same facility. Under no circumstances should anything related to IVs or injections be shared among patients. We didn't even share dose vials of morphine for our patients on the floor (came in single dose vials to ensure this.) They should not be allowed to purchase multi vial doses of versed to prevent this in the future. BAD BAD practice. UNBELIEVEABLE!!! The center was still open for operation the next day with the live news cast outside their building. They were not shut down or punished that I am aware of... They will however get the pants sued off of them... all 40,000 people are to be notified. So, What happens in Vegas really should stay in Vegas... I always knew... And Jen, never would in my wildest possible dreams get a BMT in Vegas... just mentioned family no up here around me.
