‘Calcutta Resque’ Dr assults +ve person

Dear Forum,

A very sad case of Nisha Roy(Secretary of BNP+). She has dscriminated by a

wellknown Doctore. The following is the letter she submitted to us(BNP+)and to

our WBSACS P.D.

" Myself is Nisha Roy, Secretary of BNP+ and an out reach worker of KNP+ was

getting ARD free of cost from Dr. Jack Preger of ‘Calcutta Resque’ till last

July 2005. For collection of ARD I went to meet Dr. Jack Preger in his

residence at 6, Hochimin sarani, Kolkata, on 13/08/05 with Karuna Sasmal and

other social workers of our organization.

Dr. Preger got angry upon me when I met him, he told me with very loud voice

that, “you would not get any medicine from here, you may go now on that way

(showing the gate-way of his residence).” First time I could not understand what

Dr. Preger wanted to mean, I asked Karuna if she could understand, but Karuna

replied that she also could not understand what Dr.Preger told about.

After then Dr. Preger entered in his room with the members of our organization

for giving them the ARD, I was still standing out of his room and felling myself

very insulted for his behaviour, after waiting few minutes I entered in his room

and asked Dr. Preger that, “ Dr Jack can you please tell me that why you would

not give me ARD further?” He replied me, “you do not understand Bangla? I

already brief you my word in Bangla, gate out from here immediately.”

I requested him repeatedly why he did not want to give the medicine, after every

request he repeatedly answered in the same way, which was not expected from a

doctor, especially who is a renowned social worker.

However, I requested him to give me a letter where it would be mentioned that I

am not getting ARD from him, this letter will help me to get ARD from STM, but

Dr. Preger refused to write any such letter in that regard and lastly he was

getting so furious that he pushed me from his room, then I had to return my home

with breaking heart.

I was so shocked having faced this type of situation never before, still now I

can not imagine that, after knowing the status of his patient, not only a woman,

she is a HIV positive woman who is depended( Free ARD)on him, how a

responsible(?) Doctor could physically assaulted to his patient.

It was not only a physically assaulting also a mentally harassment too.

I want to know that if some one is giving some charity to helpless people has he

got the right to do physically and mentally harassment to the care receiver?

If really the care giver seems to have the right to misbehave with the care

receiver, I think we the so called “helpless” people do not need such type of

care and support from that type of person or organization. "

We would like to see proper action is taken against this Dr.
