Guest guest
Tracey Thank you for you appreciated remarks. I worked with a computer in the 70's and 80's when I was employed as a manger in a garage. I knew one program and that was that. When new owners took over, I couldn't find a job because I didn't know Lotus or anything else. My brotherinlaw who worked for a mens pajama and robe company got me a job in his firm and that is where I learned excel, word etc. IN 2001 I was laid off and took a course for 2 months in Medical Billing. I now work for a physiatrist(Physical Medicine and Rehab) and I do a lot of billing, insurance forms etc on the computer, but I had to learn their program. My husband only can go on and check his library books and plays a few games. He sometimes messes things up, but he enjoys it. Unfortunately this disease like any other knows no age. You gals and guys that are in your 30's and 40's with young children, my advice to you is Hang in there, enjoy every non tired moment with your family. We will all beat this. Time is on your side. Lottie has become my most treasured cyber friend. Love her. Love & Hugs Ceil NYC **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, and all, age is a funny thing, as Lottie and Ceil can tell you. I've had a computer for about 10 years. Never wanted one and never wanted a cell phone, now I have both plus a lap top. I have been " wheel chairing " it across the country, since I got into the Gleevec trial in Portland, Oregon, for 8 years. Must have flown there about 17 times, alone, then there was the Sprycel trial in Houston, that was about 12 trips, now it is Ann Arbor, but I drive there. The wheel chairs come in handy at airports, it puts them in charge of you making your flights! I had to live in Portland 2 months, for 3 different trials, and 3 months in Houston. And every summer I drive to Long Island for my class reunion, this year it's the 61st., and do it in one day, usually alone also. And I well remember when I thought 50 was old!! But as far as the computer goes, if I am not on line with the cmlers, I play Hearts, Backgammon, Solitaire and Pinochle. And I read mystery novels, and in the winter I crochet for charity. Not a very active life, but it's mine, and I love it. Blessings to everyone, Bobby Tracey <traceyincanada@...> wrote: I just wanted to salute you ladies who are over the age of 70. I very much admire you. Both Bobby and Lottie have had a heck of a history with CML which inspires us all and now there's Ceil who's just a baby when it comes to CML but all three of you impress me with your tenacity and courage to, not only deal with this disease, but also your ability to use a computer. My aunt is just in her 60's but yet she looks at a computer the way a man would look at a kitchen appliance There aren't many over 70 year olds who are able (or willing) to learn how to use a computer but you three have proven that you're more than competent. There are probably more of you out there too but I didn't want to single out anyone who didn't want to be pointed out as an " over 70 year old " . You three have formally announced your ages so I thought it would be ok to mention your names here. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, You can add me to the " over the age of 70 group " . I am 72 and was diagnosed January of 2002. I always thought this disease was for my age group. I am quite surprised at all the young people dealing with this. I appreciate you younger folks for all the info you generate. It is of great benefit to me. Thanks Tracey <traceyincanada@...> wrote: I just wanted to salute you ladies who are over the age of 70. I very much admire you. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the Over 70 Club!!! It's a club that I aspire to join in about 33 years You're right that this disease primarily hits " older " people but unfortunately there are lots of us who have somehow squeezed in under the age limit. Sneaking into night clubs before I was of legal drinking age was much more fun than sneaking into this CML club Tracey > I just wanted to salute you ladies who are over the age of 70.
