Guest guest
Hi Thanks . Yea I am on 300 mg of Allopurinol, but yesterday was kind of scary . I just got up now and have a stiff neck aching bones and a terrible headache. I guess I just better get used to it. I work fulltime stocking shelves at a dollar store . That will probably kill me not the CML. Thanks for your advice. The only other things that are high are my Neutrophils 50.80 and my blast are 7.62 . He seemed pleased that my LKCS are down from 209 to 127 but I am running a slight fever and he said if it gets up to 101 F I have to go to emerg. Guest guest
Hi Eva, I can't help you out on the labs, it's been 8 years since I was on Gleevec. But this is what I remember about Gleevec. Take it with food, a substantial meal, with milk too, if you can. I used to eat some food, and take a pill, and eat a little more and take another pill. If I ate too little, there was a strong possibility I would throw up! So take your pills with your food. And the other thing I remember real well, do not lie down directly after taking Gleevec, it too can make you toss your cookies. You can recline a bit, but don't lie down! Other than that, I am sure you will be fine, they just take a little getting used to. I also found I did better if I kept a record of taking them. Because, if I ate, then forgot to take them, and remembered later, then I had to eat AGAIN, hence the weight gain!!! What is your dose? And good luck, you are on your way to slaying the dragon!! Guest guest
Second that!! What really helped me: Keep a diary of what you eat, what time you ate and what time you took the Gleevec and how you felt afterward. I found that I had to have BREAD in order to eat without the Gleevec coming up. Pizza worked okay, BLT sandwich was okay, steak dinner was NOT okay. For me, I had to eat all of my food, THEN take the pill. If I ate after the pill, I'd get sick. (I learned quickly - only threw up once.) Within a few weeks, things settled down for me. My new schedule is eating a bowl of cereal about 10:00 pm. Taking my Gleevec, brushing my teeth, getting pj's on, checking email one more time then I go to bed. (To sleep through the feeling 'yucky'.) Today, I thought I'd try something different - and took the Gleevec with dinner. So, now I am sitting on the couch, VERY STILL, trying not to upset my stomach or my headache. I will DEFINATELY go back to the cereal thing tomorrow. Good luck!! Guest guest
Hi Eva, Glad to hear you are starting gleevec. Hang on, you should be soon in blood remission. As for side effects it varies depending on people, and it tends to get better after a month or two. I second getting the pills with a full meal (lunch for me works better than breakfast or dinner, but it may be different for you), with no acidic drink/food and not too much fat, although a bit is ok. Concerning the tests : White cells : still high but this is normal - LKCS (Leucocytes) = WBC, if it is 127 it is still high but it takes at least a week or two for the gleevec to get the WBC down to normal. Normal range is about 5 to 11. Red cells : it a bit low (anemia), but normal with the high white cell count, you ll feel less fatigued when it ll go up - HGB (Hemoglobin) : 10.0 is a bit low, normal range is 13 to 17 - HCT (Hematocrite) : 31.3% a bit low, normal range is 39% to 51% don't worry about MCV and RDW (PLT) Platelets : 337 is in the normal range (140-400), it will probably go down a bit down in the next weeks, mine went down from 400 at dx to 150-200 now. Hope this help, Cheers, Marcos.
