Guest guest
Hi Guys, About 10 or 12 nights ago, Pat & I were awakened by an alarm, " BEEP BEEP " , over and over for one minute. The alarm went off at 2:53 AM. Well, I thought that maybe I'd set the alarm on my watch accidently so the next morning I checked and, nope, the watch's alarm wasn't the problem. Well, this went on every night at 2:53 AM-- " BEEP BEEP " over and over for one minute. We changed all of the batteries in clocks, smoke detectors, even the scales, to no avail. Each night at 2:53 AM the same old noise, " BEEP BEEP " . I had gotten out of bed several nights and ran all over the house, and the beeping was loud everywhere. Finally, night before last, I was thinking about the problem and decided the alarm was coming from Pat's side of the bed and the only thing over there was the clock. I decided that if the alarm went off I was going to reach over and yank the electric cord out of the wall and see what happened. Sure enough, at 2:53 AM the alarm went off, " BEEP BEEP " . I rolled over Pat to get to the clock, Pat woke up, and said------ " IT'S YOU, YOU'RE BEEPING " !!!!! Sure enough, I WAS BEEPING. Seems my pacemaker has an alarm system that goes off at a predetermined time each day if it is malfunctioning. I rushed to my cardiologist yesterday and found that my pacemaker's battery is running low, thus causing the alarm, and that while the alarm was set to go off at 8:00 AM each day if there's a malfunction, the damn thing's internal clock wasn't correctly set. The nurse told me that it wasn't uncommon for people not to know the source of the alarm for several days after it starts going off. So I get a new pacemaker next Wednesday or Thursday (you can't just change the battery, you have to change the whole pacemaker).
