Guest guest
Wow! I just lost my email to you , I'll try again. I went on that website to make a donation in your name, and for some reason they did not accept my information. If you will send me your address, I will gladly send you a check. A few years ago I hosted Mother's Day Tea Parties, 3 yrs.in a row, and raised a little over $18,000.00 doing so, for the LLS. It was great fun, and I would have raised more with the shaving hair idea, but I am the only one around here that I know of with cml. I enjoyed doing the tea parties, but then my son in law got Parkinson's Disease, ang the entire family turned it's time and energy to setting up a Parkinson's fund in the area. Temporarily that is on hold now as so many family things have happened. But it's alway fun working on a fund raiser, good luck to you. Several weeks ago a female work colleague and I made the commitment to shave our heads if we could raise $1,000 each.... well we have reached the target and sponsorship is still coming in. I would love you all to come and visit and leave a comment on my shave page. Local media will be there and we may even get our heads on TV! The head shaving is this Thursday, so I will put the very immemorial pics on after the event. At least I am able to choose to lose my hair unlike a lot of others with the acute leukaemias. http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/profile.php?id=397249 Regards,
Guest guest
$18,000 ????!!!!! That is absolutely amazing! My youngest daughter has decided she will shave her head next year, so we are going to start plotting how we can raise a good sum of money to make it worthwhile. Guest guest
Hi , it's been a few years, but some lady started having Mother's Day Tea Parties in honor of a son she lost to Leukemia, or, that is what I was told anyway. So LLS contacted me 5 yrs. ago and asked if I would be interested in sponsoring one. What they meant was a make believe party, you know, send out invitations, with a donation form, letter etc. and have my friends just send in a donation. Well I knew they would just trash it, and decided , why not have a real tea party? When I called the LLS they thought I was nuts, why would I want to have a party when I didn't have to? I went to local business, they made donations of stuff to raffle off, we sold raffle tickets on some of it, gave some of it away for prizes, and sent invitations to everyone we knew. And we served tea. And we served Mimosas! And the latter most likely had more to do with raising the first $2300.00. So, the next year I went to more local businesses, got more stuff donated, got gift certificates etc. donated, and we raised over $6,000 the second year. The third year we did about $10,000.00 . With the last two we raffled off a 3 day weekend in any one of the 50 states, travel not included, and that went over very well. The girls loved it, looked forward to it every year, wore their best hats, and a prize was given for the prettiest hat, the craziest hat, etc. But I do have to admit, I don't think the LLS would have appreciated the fact that we served booze instead of tea, no matter how much money I raised. It was fun, and it was easy, and if felt good to give back to the Leukemia Soc. for all the money they have put into research, that I have benefited from. I would still be doing it but things have changed a bit in our family, my son in law has Parkinson's, and his parents have been living with them, they are both sick, and it's my daughter and son in law's home we had the parties at. When we found out there was not a local Parkinson foundation in Cleveland, we started our own. And that also has been put on hold, 5 of the family have each had two children, since, and their time is short. It takes a lot of time and committment to be involved in organizing a legitimate foundation, but we will get back on track with it. I also raised over $2,000.00 last year crocheting scarves and selling them. I tried going to Xmas bazaars to sell them but they did not sell well. Believe it or not, they sold like hot cakes in bars. Most of them were sports team colors and were very popular. Another thing the Parkinsons group did , was go to neighbors, and beg for booze, and put up baskets of booze, then went to bars and sold tickets on it, and they too raised over $2,000.00. Lots of ways to raise money, but really great for kids to get involved, which of course leaves out the " baskets " . My grand kids sold scarves at school, I made them in the school colors and the cheerleaders loved them. Didn't mean to go on so long with this, but there are so many ways to raise money, and it is such fun doing it. If I had had one more tea party, I would have shaved my head too, could not figure out how to make money on it. Got to go, take care, Bobby and there are always candy or cookie sales, and car washes for kids, and baby sitting and donating the money...... Malseed <rodorbal@...> wrote: $18,000 ????!!!!!
