Guest guest
Dear Group, This article just came out in the journal, Blood. CML experts from UK and USA have pooled data on 180 women exposed to Gleevec during pregnancy. There is outcome data available in 125 of these women. 50% delivered normal infants and 28% underwent elective terminations of pregnancy, 3 following indentification of abnormalities in the fetus. There were 12 Gleevec babies with abnormalities, 3 of the babies had abnormalities which were cause for concern. So, the latest from the CML experts is that though the majority of pregnancies exposed to Gleevec may have a successful outcome, there is a risk that exposure to Gleevec may result in serious birth defects in babies. Please show this abstract to your doctor, if you are pregnant on Gleevec or contemplating pregnancy.
