Guest guest
Hi gang, As many of you know, I am an advocacy volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There is a very important vote happening this week in the US Senate and it would be great if we could get as many people (Americans) as possible to email a letter to their senators asking for their support of this amendment. All you have to do is go to http://action.lls.org and click on the link that says " Cancer Funding Needs Your Help Today " . The letter is there--you just need to add your name and location information and it will be sent to your senators. When a senator's office gets a lot of these it really does make a difference so please feel free to pass this on to all your family and friends as well. There have been cuts in NIH and NCI spending on cancer and medical research over the last few years and this amendment is an attempt to get the funding back up to levels we had in the past. Many research labs have had to cut back and even close up projects due to the cuts in spending levels. While an increase of 2.1 billion for the current year might sound like a lot--we actually spend that in about one week in Iraq. When you consider that 1 of every 2 men and 1 of every 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes--this funding really impacts almost everyone. Those of us with CML certainly understand how important this funding is as it was exactly this kind of funding in the past which led to the huge progress that has been made against our leukemia. Please--let's barrage them with emails on this! Thanks for your help. Dorothy Emery dx 5/2000
