Guest guest
Thank you to all who answered my concerns about whether or not I should increase my dose of Gleevec based on the FISH test. I didn't realize it had a high rate of false positives. I take 400 mg. of Gleevec and have been for four years now. I was pcru for a year. I had a zero cytogenics and pcr of 0.003% by bma in Jan. with 1/500 by FISH. My doctor wanted to do another bma in February. At that time I was zero cytogenics with pcr of 0.002% (down!) with FISH of 2/500. Previously, I had always been zero by FISH since reaching CCR. That's why my dr. mentioned increasing my dose of Gleevec. I requested mutation testing first, which was done. I don't have the result yet so I'm waiting. If there are no mutations, I'll request that I stay on 400 and test again in three months. I see Dr. Berman at MSKCC. Does anyone know what the false positive for FISH is at the MSKCC lab? I'll try to find out next time I speak with my doctor. Zavie...I loved your comment that a 2 in 500 is really a BIG FAT ZERO! Yay! In the meantime, I'm still taking 400 and happy with that. I don't really want to increase my side effects of fluid retention, occasional cramping, etc. unless it's really necessary. Thank you so much for helping me with your knowledge! in NY **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
