Chain a large hungry dog to your porch!

KIDDING!!!

A friend of mine used to discourage her cat from " enjoying " the Christmas

tree by putting half an onion in the base. I have also heard that cats

don't enjoy orange. You could try some onion slices and orange peel in

strategic locations and see if that offends him enough to go elsewhere.

Beyond being on hand to catch the kitty in the act, in which case a spray

bottle set on " stream " can be very eloquent, maybe setting up something that

will make lots of noise (pennies in a can sort of thing) should he trip the

trap. (Not to be confused with tripping the light fantastic).

Also maybe washing down the targeted areas with a VERY strong vinegar

solution may be off-putting to the lil' rascal.

Do you know why this boy suddenly decided to own your porch?

Thanks, I will try using vinegar. I scare him off at least once per day.

Funny,,,, my dog is a useless watch dog, he would probably let the cat

in the house.

No, I don't know why he is suddenly hanging out here. Some of the

other cats from his litter (neighbors have tons of strays and none are

spayed or neutered) hang out around in my woods and so I assume he

just followed them over here. In early September I thought I smelled

something foul under the deck. Thought maybe a mouse, chipmunk or

squirrel may have died under there but we couldn't see anything. The

cat started hanging out about a month ago and we're not sure if he

smelled that too and maybe that's what attracted him. He's always

trying to get in the garage so we keep everything pretty closed up.

When the raccoons show up for the onions and orange peels, what will

chase them away? LOL

Ah, the joys of living in the country!!

Thanks for the advice. Going now to fill two spray bottles, one with

water and one with vinegar.

~~~~~Oooh. One of my BAD KITTIES pushed his bigfat head through the
bedroom scrren and got outside. I fetched him back inside (I have
indoor kitties), but he did it again. Unfortunately (or
fortunately, it depends entirely on your point of view), he did it
when my 3 GSDs were outside. Inside, they leave the cats strictly
alone, since they don't want to die yet. Outside? All bets are
off, and my boy did something to Svarti-cat. I'll never know quite
what, but it wasn't good, and Svarti couldn't have been any clearer
about the culprit had he spoken English.
I don't see my dogs ushering strange cats into the house!!
~~~~~Mmm. Odds are good that he just wandered over and figured your

porch didn't smell " claimed " yet, so he thought he'd stake it for

his own.

Maybe someone here also knows of some plants that might deter cat

company, and you could keep some potted out there...?

~~~~~I can't say anything about raccoons and onions, but I know the
ones I fed at a friend's cabin (a young mom and her two kits!
adorable!) wanted nothing whatsoever to do with the orange I offered
them. The dog kibble and candy corn were separate matters
altogether.
Well, good luck with your interloper! We actually had cats come
right into our house through the cat door and beat the stuffing our
of the resident cats!! In FRONT OF US!! I'm sorry to report we
were obliged to use traps from the animal control people and haul
the hoodlums in for detention. It made me sick to do it, as I
doubted anyone would come looking to reclaim them, but I just
couldn't have them whupping butt in my living room, you know?
Ev (whose current cats now use the cat door to access
their " recreation room " , which is a kennel, which means they can't
go farther than that and no one else can come in).
Do you have any other pets? If not, I would recommend ceyanne.
Tincture is okay, but powder is best. I've used it to repel strays,
gophers and moles, skunks, deer, bear, and fox. Just sprinkle
liberally around where you don't want them to go, or toss it at them
if you see them, and you'll send them packing.
Powdered Tonic mash works even better.
I wish his owner would have thought to have all of them taken care of
but they won't spend any money on them. We used to help find homes
for the kittens but since they just keep coming it's too difficult.
He is very skiddish and we can't get too close before he runs.
neutered and bring him back to his habitat. Some vets cooperate
charging les or nothing. Perhaps there's some feral cat group around
that can help.
I have an indoor cat and our 12 year old lab who is mostly inside. I
will try the cayenne and just keep the dog off the deck.
What is Powdered Tonic mash and where would I find it?
I actually have been sorting for a garage sale and came across a
squirt gun from the kids. I will keep it handy. Thanks
he didn't like it and it didn't hurt him..
Wash or spray with vinegar and hang
something reflective up right wear he sprays, usually scares them away.
Hey ,
Powdered Tonic mash is a home-made thingy. In our Files section is
something called Total (or Complete) Tonic. It is made from garlic,
onion, habeneros, ginger and horseradish. The liquid is used as a
natural antibiotic, and some of us more insane members use the mash
that is left over, dehydrated and pulverized as a condiment over
foods and (if you can beieve it) as an herbal snuff to clear up
congestion and get rid of sinus infections.
It makes cayenne look like paprika, it is so hot and GOOOOOOOD!!
Hope this helps.
Peace, love, laughter
