Hi, Klara

Try baking that sweet potato like you might a regular potato, in the skin.

When it is soft, split open the skin, add a bit of butter, oil or seasoning,

mix in with the insides and enjoy. They will " bake " in a microwave in about

5 minutes, depending on size.

I am from the American South where sweet potatoes are done like mashed

potatoes, then sweetened with brown sugar and marshmallows on top in a

casserole, but I never really like them that way -- they are already quite

sweet enough!

Enjoy,

Betsy

Perhaps it comes down the old principle of food combining. Dr Hay was the

first to pick up on this in the modern age and more recently Harvey Diamond

writes about it in his monumental book " Fit for Life " I have no doubt the

principles are sound and the ideal diet would incorporate an element of food

combining along with eating the right food. When adverse reactions occur I

suggest you look carefully at the combinations, remember principle number

one " Proteins and Starches cannot digest efficiently in the stomach at the

same time " . This does not mean you can't eat them together, the body is

very clever and will digest them and mostly without any problems.

Food for thought. in NZ.

this is why i think that boiled would be better...it rids the potatoe of some of the starch...baking turns it to sugar...

I tried that diet 'Fit For Life' and felt terrible. Too much carbo. which I

cannot tolerate a lot of and I found I needed something more substancial for

breakfast. A lot of fruit doesnot agree with me. There is new research now

saying that you can eat protein and starch together. Oh woe who do we

believe, our bodies I think. We are all different. What one can another

can't. Sherry

I bake mine, then cut them in half just like I would a potato. Then

sprinkle nutmeg, cinnamon, and heap on a ton of butter. I don't even

bother with the skin. Yummy!

My ears prick up . . .

**Does that mean we can eat marshmallows ?

Sorry folks but this is looking pretty dismal to me - my dh is not

interested, keeps buying c . . p for the kids and wants me to be

able to do it without having to spend any extra £.

I'll get there, it just won't be as soon as I wanted, once I decide

on something I want it done yesterday!

Hand make them without corn syrup?

Don't spend the money on the crap and you'll have the money to buy

the good stuff. Yeah, I know. Still more expensive but you have to

make your choices.

In case it wasn't clear - I was sending a Q & A off the web. They

weren't my questions or responses - just information since we were

just talking about sweet potatoes. The timing thing you know.

You may have to be an example to him. Just insist you have to give this a

try to see if it works for you. If it means the difference in medical bills,

he will see a happier you, and maybe he will be more willing either to let

you eat your way, change the eating habits for the family.

I eat it baked just like a regular potato with butter, salt, and pepper on

it. You can also prepare it like hash browns by shredding and frying.

Sweet Potatoes are in the peak of their season and are our food of the week. Did you know that, unlike other starchy vegetables, sweet potatoes are classified as an anti-diabetic food? Recent studies have shown that sweet potatoes help stabilize blood sugar levels and lower insulin resistance, a problem caused by cells not responding to the presence of insulin, which then prevents the transport of sugars from the blood into the cells. Some of sweet potatoes' anti-diabetic properties are believed to come from their high concentration of carotenoids such as beta carotene (the redder varieties also contain lycopene), which, along with their vitamin A and vitamin C, act as powerful antioxidants to help combat free radical activity that would otherwise damage cells and cell membranes. Sweet potatoes also contain unique root storage proteins with potent

antioxidant activity. These proteins, along with sweet potatoes high content of carotenoids and vitamin C, may also make them helpful in reducing inflammation, such as that involved in conditions like asthma, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis Suzi List Owner health/ http://360./suziesgoats What is a weed?
