Guest guest
I find questionable that to eat meat produces pleasure. I remember that when I was a child and I was forced to eat meat, I strongly disliked it. Instead, I was happy eating vegetables, fruits, chocolate and other goodies. When in my twenties I met a vegetarian lady, I jumped of enthusiasm and asked her lots of questions. In a matter of a few minutes I decided that I was going to be a vegetarian right away. Since this day I never ate any animal flesh again. I confess that I felt liberated and happy of my decision. This is one of the best things I have done in my life. The change in diet soon revealed me many important things and this led me to study nutrition, natural therapies and showed me there was another way of living and healing. What *I* find questionable, and objectionable in the extreme, is the implied moral judgement on meat-eating. Because I eat meat, I am possessed of lesser values and ethics? It seems that some people here are very graciously allowing me to be ~wrong~ until I ~evolve~ enough to see the light and turn from my base ways. I think that seems more close-minded and arrogant than my belief that I am correct to include meat in my diet. Or am I interpreting some of these posts incorrectly? Guest guest
Ev, I think you're interpreting a bit harsh here.. Many of us us eat meat.... however, I for one do enjoy some meat.. but I know how much better I feel and do without it in my diet... I, like Sharyn, get a craving now and then... of course having a DH who likes his meat and potatoes (so to speak)... doesn't help... (I hear you Sharyn) You are where you need to be.. it is neither right or wrong... it is where you choose to be. If you feel you are being judged, I will apologize for that as we do not judge here. Guest guest
Rena, maybe eating meat doesn’t give *you* pleasure – and obviously not many other HAWKers. However, I’m willing to bet that there are just as many people here for whom eating meat *does* give pleasure. And I think we should continue our policy of being tolerant of each others’ differences. When I was a child, I was forced to eat lima beans. I strongly disliked them. Still do. But I’m sure there are lots of people out there who love them. Go figure…there’s no accounting for taste.<G> Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Blua Birdo I find questionable that to eat meat produces pleasure. Guest guest
I just share my experience. In addition, my opinion about the implications of eating animal flesh I just keep it for myself. If you are happy eating meat and you feel this is the right way, the opinions of others shouldn't mind to you. On the other side, we, vegetarians, are a minority and we are broadly criticized. Who cares? We are free to choose our path in life. Rena Re: MEAT OR NO MEAT ... is that the question? >> I find questionable that to eat meat produces pleasure. Guest guest
Sharyn, I'm surprised that my words were interpreted as not being tolerant of each others' differences. This was not my intention. I just expressed my opinion and shared my story. Don't I have the right to do this? Most of my friends are not vegetarians and not even my boyfriend is. Guest guest
Fine. I think we should just end this thread. It’s long past the point of accomplishing anything and is giving our new friends a less than stellar impression of us. Guest guest
Ev I think you are expecting people to jump on you and are reading it in the posts. But I could be wrong. This list seems to be one of the least judgmental lists I am on. Gayla Always Enough Ranch Acampo, California http://bouncinghoofs.com/alwaysenough.html aeranch@... Guest guest
Hi Ev, As a fellow carnivore I find it difficult to present my side of the question without seeming to look down on people who disagree with me. I'm sure the same is true of most of the poster's on this list, no matter their food preferences. Also, as we all know, it is extremely difficult to add " tone of voice " to an impersonal email. I have to try to read between the lines for the person's true meaning, and I hope I err on the positive side. So far in all the responses to my question I've only seen one that I would come close to interpreting as a " put down. " It seems to me a very good list with lots of variety and camaraderie. Guest guest
It could be psychological. But I do know that when I eat my raw beef strips, I get immense pleasure and contentment. Maybe it's a "man thing" or some such. But the endorphins do fire up. Peace, love, laughter Blua Birdo <bluabirdo@...> wrote: I find questionable that to eat meat produces pleasure. Guest guest
I don't see any "moral judgements" being made. And I've known these people a very very long time, through some very personal issues. Some of us are just passionate, that's all. You all are spared my rants and raves on this list, fortunately. I have very strong beliefs about a variety of issues, and am not shy about getting in people's faces about it. Marilyn sometimes has to step in and tell me to go to my corner (seriousely). But we love each other here!!! And we do all we can to respect each other. Ev, I personally think you are a perfect fit for this list. I encourage you to stay. Get a feel for who and what these extremely strange people are about. I believe you won't be disappointed. Shari, you know how I feel about you! This list would be so much less if you "bowed out". Maybe it's time we moved on to some other topic????? Peace, love, laughter autumn3scorpio <autumn3scorpio@...> wrote: >> Or am I interpreting some of these posts incorrectly?Ev . __________________________________________________Do You ?Tired of spam? has the best spam protection around http://mail.
