Guest guest
G'mornin', List! So, does anyone have the scientific reason why babies shouldn't have honey before they're a year old? What do their tiny tummies lack? Thanks! Ev (14, 004)

Guest guest
Babies can't handle the pollens in the honey, so the other poster's " enzymes " is what's lacking, is correct. :-) Jan G.
Guest guest
Oh, and there is a higher risk of botulism in babies having straight honey before a year old. I would venture to say though, that if it was raw organic honey, there probably would be much less of a risk... Jan G.
Guest guest
Honey has been found to carry a type of botulism spore in an amount high enough to damage or kill an infant. So the general suggestion is not to give any before 1 year of age.
