You got me too. I am from NZ I have been feeding my dogs species appropriatley for a few years now. It has recently clicked that maybe I should be trying to do a little more for my own health.

(Way easier with the dogs)

~~~~Hey, ! Glad you're here!
Yes, it IS easier with the dogs (and cats). I sometimes think *I* need a keeper! (The rest of the time, everyone else is sure of it).
I am 40 very soon and starting to feel mortal. Before this I was young. lol. I am trying different things these days and have grown a huge amount since 30 so hopefully the next 10 yrs will be as productive. while it has clicked, it is only kind of and I am easing myself into eating properly and so forth. lol.
~~~~~Pfffft! At least you're starting earlier than *I* did. And some of it just does NOT get easier for putting it off - like the weight I gained (my very first symptom of menopause). On the one hand, it was instrumental in quitting smoking. Seeing as how I couldn't use that excuse anymore, "Oh, I can't quit smoking, I'll gain weight!" Not only is that one of the dumbest excuses ever contrived, I'd already gained the weight, so...

So, this February (Valentine's Day!) will be 8 years, but I STILL can't get rid of this pudge!! Aaaarrrgghhhhh!!!

Wow. I digressed. (There's a huge surprise...)

The point being - had I taken a sharp turn in my eating habits way many years earlier, I might not be having such a trauma dealing with it now. So, kudos to you for starting now!

I do enjoy sitting back and watching the banter and learning. Not much to contibute at this point. Hopefully I will get arountuit.

in NZ

~~~~~LOL! I've actually seen little plastic discs that have "TUIT" printed on them - so you can give them to your friends, so they will never again be able to say they couldn't get a round tuit!! HAH!
* I would resent them desparatley for telling me what to do is the only problem. lol. Knowing and doing is different things.
* I only gave up smoking 16 months ago. I tried the weight excuse but I put on weight regularly anyway. If anyone else loses weight I am fortunate enough to find it. Pfft. Anyway I turned into a fat smoker and we all know they are really unhealthy. Now I am a fat non smoker. Much healthier. <g> recently I dropped several kgs but it has started creeping up again and I am feeling it with aches and pains and legarthy and so forth.
* would prefer a plastic disc to Moose poop tuit like Shari's . lol.
~~~~~Okay, first of all, you're 16 months farther ahead than the person who is still thinking about quitting tobacco. So give yourself some credit for that.

Now, you've brought yourself here because you are ready to change your eating habits.

So plastic disc or laminated moose scat, looks like you've gotten a round tuit (again!), so smile, thank yourself for being smart, and move ever forward!!

It's very hard to be truly healthy if we keep belittling ourselves. Be kind to yourself - you're worth it!

Thanks! I actually drink lots of water - not distilled, but I LIKE my water! (We have a well). I start every morning with a 16 oz. glass with (the ~juice~ of, Guido!*) half a lemon squeezed into it, and I fast 2 to 4 times a year.

It's all good. I'm still experimenting with what diet works best for me, but at this point I am documenting EVERYTHING that I eat or drink. Keeps me from straying down candy corn lane - which has been my biggest Nemesis. Sugar. That's the absolute worst addiction EVER, IMO. Quitting smoking was a walk in the park compared to the sugar thing.

Tonight will be a real test of my motivation!! (Headline: "Woman stampedes trick-or-treaters in her own driveway. "MY trick!! MY treats!" she screamed....As police carefully escorted her to their patrol car, she was heard to mutter, "Let 'em get jobs, buy their own danged candy.").

oh, dear.

On of the great things I like about the Atkins diet is that after the

first few days my carb cravings all went away. Never in n my life had I

felt better.

So, you may ask, why did I not stay with it? The reasons were deep and

none were valid.
