Bula-di - AIDS awareness campaign in Kolkata

Dear Forum,

I would like to discuss the following with you.

As you know in Kolkata there is an awareness campaign underway just now called

BULADI. This is to address the general population segment and the campaing

sponsored by WBSAPCS.

One of the media being extensively used is - Hoarding (big ones).

There are several designs for the hoardings. I would like to here discuss one of

them. This hoarding has:

A housewife asking Buladi (the HIV/AIDS expert) - I know my husband has another

lover. What should I do? Buladi says - you and your husband immediately go and

get yourself tested.

What does this mean?

1. that it is ok to be adulterous for a man?

2. that it is ok to be polygamous for a man?

3. that the woman (wife) must accept it?

4. that a woman (wife) is happily accepting it?

5. That all will be ok - you only have to worry about HIV/AIDS?

6. That all will be ok - just get yourself tested at the nearest VCTC and

continue with life as it is?

Are the above issues important and should they be considered when we are

designing Communication messages / materials?

I would like some discussion on this.. I think it is important, specially in

today's time when so much stress is being put on COMMUNCATION.
