Guest guest
Within the last week I read an online article about the FDA testing Vitamin C in 200 mg units. They " proved " that Vitamin C neither cured nor prevented colds, so no one should take Vitamin C at any potency as it is worthless. I've spent a large part of the last two days trying to find it, with no luck. But I'll keep looking. Judith Alta and Oski
Guest guest
They were probably referring to standarized Vit C. .Vit C from citrus peels or broccoli, bell peppers, kale, cauliflower, strawberries, lemons, mustard and turnip greens, brussels sprouts, papaya, chard, cabbage, spinach, kiwifruit, snow peas, cantaloupe, oranges, grapefruit, limes, tomatoes, zucchini, raspberries, asparagus, celery, pineapples, lettuce, watermelon, fennel, peppermint and parsley. Guest guest
It’s not worthless Judith, but the body will flush out what it doesn’t need, and for the average person anything over around 500 mg will probably be pee-pee within 4 hours of consumption. I think if a little extra C helps you feel better when you are sick, than go for it. Science is constantly changing too, so I would bet that they find that certain forms of C work better than others for this particular ailment. Guest guest
Janet, The point was that because 200 mg of Vitamin C neither prevented nor cured colds Vitamin C was worthless at any potency. Most recommendations I have seen for taking C are in gram quantities. Not milligrams. One does need to work up to the large quantities as it can (will) send one trotting.
