Guest guest
Dear friends It is one year since Lila Banta Singh, the former President of Manipur Network of People living with HIV/AIDS (MNP+) and former Board member of INP+ had passed away. He was also the board member of GNP+ (Global Network of people living with HIV/AIDS). He had greatly contributed to the mobilization of people living with HIV in the North-east India inspite of the intense stigma associated with people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and injecting drug users. Being a former injecting drug user, he wanted PLHA groups as well as the government to understand the specific issues of injecting drug users living with HIV/AIDS. He used to assert that since the epidemic in the Northeastern India is different from other parts of India and there was a need to give special and intense attention to this region. It is still hard to believe that Lila Banta is no more with us and a year has passed without him. It might be due to our strong belief that “We miss his being but still feel his presence, in whatever form he has chosen to take and however he has now chosen to be; his spirit has become a guardian angel for all of us, guiding, advising and watching over us”. Hence let all of us together move ahead in making all his dreams come true with his words as great source of inspiration – “It is not how long we live that is important but how well we live” NB: This year, death anniversary of LilaBanta Singh falls on 9th August 2005 in accordance with the traditional lunar calendar followed by his fellow people at Manipur In solidarity K.
