Guest guest
Of course! After cleaning out this PA house that we lived in for 20+ years before moving to Florida (and buying and furnishing a house down there because we were supposed to be going back and forth seasonally, until my dh decided he wasn't *ever* coming back to PA), we filled 2-1/2 trucks from 1-800-GOT-JUNK. I learned my lesson. Nothing comes in unless a corresponding something goes out. Even after 2-1/2 truckloads to the dump, we moved down *65* boxes of artworks, books, chotchkes, etc. to Florida. They may arrive before I do, so I alerted my dh to find some place to put them...*and* that we have to force ourselves to open and organize at least one box a day each or we'll be up to our eyeballs in boxes forever. Sharyn, who still has unpacked boxes in her office from the move into the new Florida house in August 2006! -----Original Message----- From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Judith Alta K I'm sure most of you are aware that stuff expands to fill the space available. Guest guest
I can do you better than that! When my mother died in the spring of 1997 we merged two fully furnished houses. I have stuff in boxes that I may never see again. Judith Alta Sharyn E. Cerniglia wrote: > Of course! Guest guest
I admire people who have houses full of beautiful or precious things that they keep such good care of - cleaned and dusted always. But that is NOT me! I am not Martha and never likely to be. I am lucky if can get my house presentable for family who already know what to expect. But as one of my sisters said - I am not here to inspect your housekeeping. I am here to enjoy your company! Guest guest
Sort through your things and put stuff you are unsure of away for a few months. If you don’t miss it while it’s away, throw it out. The more you throw things out and feel good about it, the easier it becomes. It is easier to give some stuff away than throw it away sometimes. My school buddies and I are exchanging children’s books this year. Clothes and toys are good for trading too. There is always your neighborhood charity as well. St. de ’s is huge in our area, and I like to give them anything I can because they have given so much over the years. Guest guest
LOL.. Janet, I've sent bags to our twice is nice shop already this year...which benefits a children's camp.. I bet I could send 1/2 my closet... (no joke).. I also have different sizes I've kept over the years (did I tell you I'm a pack rat?)... I have a bag in the closet so when I am in the mood I add to it... when it's full I take it to the shop...Janet <dragonhealing@...> wrote: Sort through your things and put stuff you are unsure of away for a few months. Guest guest
LOL! (hubby) was a pack rat too. I have to go through his stuff and throw it away while he isn’t looking. It actually makes me feel good to get rid of stuff. Even with our tiny apartment, when we finally do move it will be a huge chore. The more stuff I can get rid of now the better! Guest guest
Janet you are so right about giving stuff away instead of putting it in the trash. Not only does it make you feel better, but it helps the community - and those wonderful chickens will come home to roost when you need them most. Guest guest
I like to use FreeCycle to get rid of stuff. Just put it out on the computer and people grab up the most bizarre things! And the best part is I don't have to box it up and take it anywhere except to the porch. Shari
Guest guest
That is so funny!! Marilyn does that with me too. When I was in prison, my name was PakRat (and Preacher, of course). If a new inmate needed something (which most do) some came to me. A bar of soap, some toothpaste, some boxers. Our prayer group even had a "larder" of supplies that we collected for those in need. Ah, memories Peace, love, laughter Janet <dragonhealing@...> wrote: LOL! (hubby) was a pack rat too. I have to go through his stuff and throw it away while he isn’t looking.
