Guest guest
Sharyn, Can you experiment and set up your own point system? I have found that if I eliminate as much phony phood as possible and tune into my tummy, quitting as soon as it is comfortably full, I can lose weight. Good luck! Judith Sharyn E. I’m thinking that raw foods should have either no points at all (since they’re totally assimilated) or at the very least a reduced amount. And I eat a lot of raw foods, so want to be able not to include them in my daily points total. For instance, today I ate an apple (1 point), which I think should be 0 points because it’s raw. (At least all non-starch veggies are 0 points, cooked or raw.) Anyone have any advice on how to enjoin these two paradigms? I realize that it’s best to eat 100% raw, but I just can’t do it. I have a husband who won’t go there and we eat out a lot and the holidays are here. At home, I don’t have any trouble staying 100% raw until dinner, though, so that HAS to account for something, doesn’t it? Any advice greatly appreciated! Guest guest
I’m getting to that point, Judith. But first I want to follow the program as much as possible to see how I fit in there. Since Tuesday, I’ve lost 3.4 pounds, without feeling at all deprived. I just think the point system is based on eating a lot of “phony phoods” as you say, and would like to be able to translate it as much as possible into real food. And I really think that anything raw (1) uses as much energy to digest as is in the calories of the food and (2) leaves no toxic residue to accumulate as pudge around the midsection. I’ve joined for three months…will eat as healthy as I possibly can and try to keep within the points system. Of course, once I reach my goal weight (only 4 more pounds), I’ll go on maintenance and will probably have more leeway built into the system. I also don’t eat a lot of phony phood, and tune into my tummy…but I do like my 5:00pm pomegranate martini and maybe a glass of wine with dinner, and those empty calories add up. I thought I didn’t eat very much until I had to start accounting for every bite that goes into my mouth. It’s been an interesting experience. Plus I have to account for each glass of water and serving of fruits/veggies/dairy, etc., which is a good thing because I probably wasn’t drinking enough water before and now I have to check off each one I drink. Tonight is our weekly Happy Hour at the local microbrew. Dirty martinis are less points than pomegranate ones (because the olive juice has no points vs. 2 points for the pomegranate martini mix), so I’ll save there, and have a wedge salad with the dressing on the side, which will only have 1 or 2 points. Plus I’ll save up my points during the day to splurge for HH.<G> Thanks for the feedback! Guest guest
Sorry Sharyn, I don't know much about weight watchers. Are you drinking enough water? taking any enzymes? How about incorporating some herbal teas (geared to weight loss) in your daily regime? Suzi"Sharyn E. Guest guest
Oh, yes, I’m drinking plenty of water. We have to check off at least eight glasses a day, and I’m drinking more than that. Not taking enzymes, but eating a lot of raw. I’ve lost 3.4 pounds since Tuesday, eating pretty well. I’m just trying to figure how their point system fits into raw eating… Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Suzanne Sorry Sharyn, I don't know much about weight watchers. Guest guest
Sharyn, Are you doing CARDIO? My trainer said cardio plus water I must do. Raw is great, but for me making those small changes helped tons. Raw people do eat lots of nuts, avoc and fruits. My key is trainer telling me WHAT and HOW to use the machines/exercises designed for my personal body. He weekly meets with me and changes my program at that time totally. I'm sold out to success seeing drastic results. My clothing is so big there is no way to keep it in closet so being donated often now. I know it's a big investment having a trainer, but then I am willing to sacrifice and stand on my feet for hours just to make money and do this. At 24 fitness I am shocked at tons of people using trainers too. They have cute clothing, but on sale there good deals; otherwise, pricey. I am excited to share always. I am overwhelmed with all this gym equipment and just walking around wondering what to do each time. It takes the guess work out of my gym experience. I'm not saying I will have trainer forever weekly, but always will have one that I can get guidance from. I am self motivated and not everyone is however so whether I see him at the gym daily doesn't impact my showing up and doing what I am " told " to do being a good student. hugs, carolg > > Oh, yes, I'm drinking plenty of water. Guest guest
Be careful with water. In large quantities it can kill! Eight glasses of water spaced out through the day should be fine, but don't try to drink that much in one sitting. This past summer a woman died when she entered a contest to see who could dring the most water the fastest. Just a heads up as to what can happen when things are overdone. Guest guest
Thanks for all that info, CarolG. Just to clarify...I'm not having any problem losing weight, just trying to fit the WW point system into a partially raw food diet. Maybe it can't be done and I'll have to devise my own points for raw foods. There isn't any 24-hour Fitness near me, Carol. I did Curves for a year...saw improvements in the first six months, but not after that, so I quit. I have a big dog to walk, a swimming pool to swim in, a Rebounder to jump on, and tons of yoga DVDs to practice with. I think those will do fine for exercise...am just trying to fit the WW point system into raw foods. They seem to use the same points for a food whether it's raw or cooked. I don't think that's valid. Sharyn -----Original Message----- From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of cgiambri I joined 24 hour fitness. http://24hourfit.schedulesource.com/public/ FL has some places. Guest guest
Hi Sharyn, If me, I would just then count a raw vs. a cooked veggie with the same WW count. The key for me is to watch what/if I put on the veggies. Yesterday, at seminar, we all went to Mexican restaurant for lunch. Ordered large salad and out came a small plate with " iceberg lettuce, a few bites of tomato, and a tiny bit of sliced almonds. " It was horrible, but ate it. It was very skimpy. Table had large bowls of deep fried chips. I had 3 tiny ones. The salsa was fire hot. I don't like fire hot foods. I would think WW would investigate some conversion talk about raw vs. cooked, but maybe it's not an issue for them or enough people. gym/spa: Great you have all the yoga dvds and lots of exercise variations to do. For me I like doing the group thing which I get at 24 hour, but I love the training portion with trainer. I know trainer not your option, but for me he customizes my workout daily. It helps me understand proper use of equipment, what exercises to do and for which body parts. I am still wondering if you are getting enough cardio to burn? I do cardio before I get into my actual workout for a few minuites as warm up, then at end I conclude my entire workout with a tough cardio. How much rebounding are you doing daily? I know that's fabulous too. Trainer has me on the treadmill presently for the cardio part. I am at the highest incline, 15, and I play with the speed. The more I up the speed the more I huff and puff to the max. It is quite a workout. Best to you. hugs, carolg > > Thanks for all that info, CarolG. > > Just to clarify...I'm not having any problem losing weight, just trying to > fit the WW point system into a partially raw food diet. Guest guest
Thanks, Carol. I'll use the same WW counts raw v. cooked. But I think I should have more leeway with raw, although veggies don't have any points anyway, and most fruit only has one. I really don't want to go out somewhere to exercise. Especially when I've got all these resources here. I don't need one more thing in my day to take up time.<G> Swimming is cardio...walking is cardio...rebounding is cardio...yoga is weight. I think I'm getting enough. Guest guest
Sharyn, Not familiar with the revised point system of WW since so long since I have been attached to them. Surely you have lots of cardio going, but for me away from the house gets me among people which I need as people person otherwise I could be a shut in here. Best to you. carolg > > Thanks, Carol.
