I take only Inspra and previously took only Spiro. I do have to supplement 60 - 80 meq's of K, but don't require any other antihypertensive.

Re: My Father Has Low Potassium!

Hi, MarkYes, that is all I am on. For about a year, I took100 mg of Spironolactone. I needed to increase itrecently.Warmly,Pam--- THE HOUSE <thewhiningpplz@...> wrote:> is that all u r on?> Thanks> Mark"I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing, than to teach ten thousand stars how not to dance."__________________________________________________

Dr. Grim, if my BP is controlled on Inspra but I still have swelling in the hands and feet, should I presume that the cause is something other than excess sodium?

come to find out the inspra dont have a diuretic in it.Neither spiro or Inspra are "diuretics" if you mean the get rid of water from the body or make you pee more. They do get rid of excess sodium if the cause of the Na retention is aldo or other mineralocorticoid. Indeed the most common effect I see with ABs (aldo blockers) is that the need to urinate goes back to normal. CE Grim, MD

Eating too much salt is most likely cause. Are you taking any other meds. When asking these types of questsions one should always list EVERYTHING they are taking.

May your pressure be low!

25 mg Inspra

200 mg Serzone (2x)

20 meqs K (3x)

150 mg Ranitidine (2x)

10 mg Zyrtec

Multivitamin (Optivite) - about 1/2 the full daily dose

Ultra Colon Cleanse (Psyllium Husk and Senna - just enough to keep me regular)

As for sodium, I'm on the 1200 calorie SSHE plan, which averages 1770 mg of sodium and 2106 mg of K daily. However, not sure how long I'll stick with that as I intended it for weight loss and after just more than one week of SSHE with 30 - 60 minutes of bike riding at least every other day, I've maintained. Going to give it one more week and add some weights, but I usually need to stick to 800 - 900 with exercise to lose weight.

I'm also experiencing more restless leg symptoms now than when I was on Spiro, but I used to take spiro at night for that reason... I'm taking Inspra in the morning because the effect doesn't seem to last as long (also on a lower dose, I was on 50 mg of spiro).

Thanks for the complete infor. Note that SSHE is low in K compared to the DASH which is about 4000 mg. I have talked with Seattle and tried to convience her to move more towards the DASH but she says you cant sell food that people wont eat. She did sell several million meals last year.

The Colon cleanse is likely to make you lose K.
