Guest guest
Thanks Suzi. I've been taking homeopathic remedies. Apis Mell. for the itching and Rhus Toxicodendron for pain. I don't take them at the same time. They do help. Suzanne wrote: They say capsicum is good for them ... Lemon balm is also supposed to be excellent also, both internal and external. Guest guest
Is shingles contagious? If it is I don't want to go out and contaminate the world. Guest guest
Hi Suzi, What if they have been vaccinated for chicken pox, but never had it? Hope the teeny tiny text did not show up in your emails. I was trying to get a visible size, and it looked normal before I sent it. Guest guest
Topically the best thing for shingles is skin lotion with beta glucan (antioxidant). Make sure it does not have artificial colors, aroma or petroleum. Internally, enzyme therapy is very effective to reduce inflammation, stimulate the immune system, improve circulation and help speed tissue repair. Other important supplements are acidophilus and bifidus. Friendly bacteria stimulates enzyme activity and improves the body's natural immunity. (Test these supplements OUTSIDE of your body before you start taking them to make sure they will work INSIDE of your body.) In addition, one of the best antiviral foods is coconut oil. One of the most amazing aspects of coconut oil is its ability to fight infections. When coconut oil is consumed, the body transforms its unique fatty acids into powerful antimicrobial powerhouses capable of defeating some of the most notorious disease-causing microorganisms. Even the super germs are vulnerable to these lifesaving coconut derivatives. Coconut oil is, in essence, a natural anti bacterial, anti viral, anti fungal, and anti protozoal food. Coconut oil's anti microbial effects come from its unique composition of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA). Coconut oil is composed of 48 percent lauric acid, 7 percent capric acid, 8 percent caprylic acid, and .5 percent carproic acid. These medium-chain fatty acids give coconut oil its amazing anti microbial properties and are generally absent from all other vegetables and animal oils with the exception of butter. MCFA are natural substances the body knows how to use for its benefit. They are harmless to us while they are deadly to certain microorganisms. For example, most bacteria and viruses are encased in a coat of lipids (fats). The fatty acids that make up this outer membrane or skin hold together the organism's DNA. Lipid coated viruses and bacteria are easily killed by MCFA, which primarily destroy these organisms by disrupting their lipid membranes. MCFA, being similar to those in the micro-organisms's membrane, are easily attracted to and absorbed into it. Unlike the other fatty acids in the membrane, MCFA are much smaller and, therefore, weaken the already nearly fluid membrane to such a degree that it disintegrates. The membrane literally splits open, spilling its insides and killing the organism. Our white blood cells quickly clean up and dispose of the cellular debris. MCFA kill invading organisms without causing any known harm to human tissues. The potential coconut oil has in treating and preventing a wide assortment of infections is truly astounding, ranging from the flu to life-threatening conditions such as AIDS. Guest guest
Thank you, thank you, for this Carol. I had known most of it, but it's been a while so I had not given it a thought. I often drink coconut milk, but I dilute it half with water, both to make it last longer and to give it a consistency more like cows' milk. As luck would have it I noticed a brand new jar of coconut oil as I was prospecting in the food cupboard this morning. Again, thank you. Guest guest
Is there anything I can do to keep from giving chicken pox to an unsuspecting person? I do have to go out tomorrow, but the problem is that I will need to be around elderly people, many of whom are not in the best of health. Judith Suzanne wrote: I would say no... but then again... Guest guest
Shingles are contagious in certain circumstances. Shingles can be spread from the infected person to children or adults who have never had chickenpox. But, instead of developing shingles, the people who have not had chickenpox will develop chickenpox. Once these people have had chickenpox, they too have the potential to contract shingles later on in their lifetime. Shingles are contagious when there are new blisters forming and old blisters healing. Once all the blisters have crusted over, the virus can no longer be spread. Once a person has had chickenpox, they are no longer susceptible to another person who has shingles, in other words, they cannot catch the virus from someone else who is broken out with shingles blisters, whether they are crusted over or not.Judith Alta -K <list@...> wrote: Is there anything I can do to keep from giving chicken pox to an unsuspecting person?I do have to go out tomorrow, but the problem is that I will need to be around elderly people, many of whom are not in the best of health. Guest guest
Do shingles stick around for a certain amount of time and leave, or do they leave whenever they get good and ready? Thank you to everyone who has answered my questions. You have all been very helpful. Judith Alta K
Guest guest
Singles is the same virus that causes chicken pox in children. It lies dormant on nerve roots for the person’s lifetime after having had chicken pox. When you experience a lull in your immune system’s functionality, shingles can appear. They are extremely painful. Some people have lingering pain on the affected nerve for months after an outbreak. I would think boosting the immune system would help fight it off. Astragalus would by my first choice. St. ’s wort oil is supposed to be soothing for the sores. My mom had a bad case after my dad died. So if the affected person has some grief or other emotional stress, it would be good to try and relieve that as much as possible. Hope this helps. Guest guest
It is not a good idea for another person to come in contact with you while you have active sores. If you have to go out, cover them and wash your hands. Kids can contract chicken pox and adult (more rarely) could get shingles. Guest guest
You're welcome Judith. Someone else asked which brands I use - Suzi I think? Did you want just the coconut oil brand, or all the brands of the products that I listed? Well, for starters, I like the Nutiva brand for coconut oil. If you want the others too, let me know.
