About 4 days ago I set up a www. mailbox with the name zen_108@... ...................... I do NOT practice Zen......I DID have an inkling of the significance of 108 in Buddhism...... So now that we all have helped jam your 108 mailbox why not make another one.You can even keep the 108 and alter your name slightly. dan taiji & the signif of 108(was:...old trailers) >From: Dimitri <nicholas108@...> > > > Holly <dio7g@...> wrote: >> >> From: " Holly " <dio7g@...> >> >> I will...guess I got sloppy. >> Is 108 your lucky number? >> >> >> dan >> >Hi Dan, > >i use 108 because that's the designated way the number of moves in >traditional Yang style taiji is counted. here Yang is a family name. >we name the taiji form by number of moves it has. it's a common thing >to do in taiji, particularly Yang style. some schools (of yang style) >call that same taiji form the 88, and some, the 156. there are two >main other forms done in the Yang style, the 48, which combines moves >from all the 5 styles into one form, but it's done with yang flavour, >so to speak, and the 24, which is the " modern " Yang style form. it's >the most poplular form in the world, and at one point, the Chinese > " Communists " had just about the whole country doing it. there's more >significance to the number 108 and i found a website that goes into it >some: > >http://luckymojo.com/buddhawalnut.html > >probably more than you wanted to know, but there it is. > >take care, > >Nick >------------------------------------------------------------------------ >
