Guest guest
Dear all I am glad to see the gathering interest in financial coverage for HIV/AIDS. It is vital to change the insurance scenario in India, as a whole, so that we do not exclude those who need help the most. There has been some work done in India on HIV/AIDS and insurance, mostly at the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG). One such piece of work is the IEG-Pop Council work on feasibility of health insurance for Antiretrovirals. The report - ACCESS TO ANTIRETROVIRALS IN INDIA -A FEASIBILITY STUDY can be accessed from the Population Council office or from the Health Policy Research Unit of IEG. Following this work, the UNDP and IEG, along with a care and support organisation - Freedom Foundation, has worked together to expand on the various options open to India for incorporating HIV treatment. The report on this feasibility study may be available soon from the UNDP. It was heartening to note that one insurance company, National Insurance Company (NIC)was pro-active in this initiative and worked along with IEG and other partners to come up with a scheme that has potential of being developed further. We hope that such vision would continue in future as well. Regards, Mayur Trivedi E-mail: <mayur@...>
