Okay! But some of those require cooking, so it made me curious. Sharyn - the link you posted was an interesting one, but one of the first recipes was for something with chick peas! Those needs must be cooked before consuming them (unless you have a gizzard and use them for rocks)! I don't mind, understand, I happen to love chick peas. But it's the RAW part I'm curious about. Guest guest
I'm with you Gayla. I'm not touching soy for anything. Wish I could have a goat in the backyard! Maybe I can get the vet tech program at school to get one!! Oooh, now I've got an idea! They used to have a horse and there is a barn up there not being used. Hmmm.....next year is going to be very busy with me convincing chef to do vegetarian, putting a recycle program into effect, and now a goat. Luckily Bob the Welder (instructor) has chickens so there are always lots of fresh eggs. Shari

Guest guest
Yes it smells like fish, but what people usually call a fishy smell is several day old fish with a negative shelf life IMHO. No fish anywhere. It was a gas while it lasted. I fished from Mexico to Alaska. Good times. Gayla Always Enough RanchAcampo, Californiaaeranch@... Re: Raw Diet? Guest guest
You hadn't given me those links previously , so - thanks! I will go and do some reading, but it'll have to wait; DH's go-pony is suffering mightily in this heat, so I'm having my breakfast and heading out to do some shaving. (yuck times a million...) Talk about clogging - I'm glad I'm not my bathtub drain this morning!! Ev - does anyone have a surgical mask I can use?! I don't do grains. Go to Dr. Graham and click on the "articles" section. He has some great information there. He claims grains cause mucus/blockage in our organs much like cholesterol causes blockage in our arteries. Another great place to read is Raw School I may have already given you these links, but there is a ton of information on both of them. It's all about an open mind. Guest guest
See, now, THIS is interesting stuff for me!Ev You can soak garbanzos and then sprout them for a couple days. Then you can use them much like you would cooked chickpeas. The only thing is you have to really watch them and rinse quite often during the day and taste them each day or they "go" on you quite quickly. I've tasted some delightful hummus from raw, sprouted garbanzos. Shari
Guest guest
"Ev, who is reading Louise Hay and wonders if we can't stay in a comfortable middle ground and do just as well ... ?" You might ask your friend, but I'll bet she'll say "100% for best results". Look at it this way, you fill up your car with 15 gallons of premium gas, but your tank holds 16 gallons. Oh well, I'll save a few bucks and put in a gallon of free water................think it will make a difference? You bet! ~~~~~Well, sure! But then, I know people who are in equally fabulous shape who swear by Paleo. It's not just having an open mind, it's paying attention to what does best for YOU. Different strokes, and all that... Talk to your friend with MS. What a living, breathing, walking testimony! I'm sure she would be excited to share her story with you. Make sure you bring your husband. ~~~~~Oh, the DH already knows about this - he was in the room when she said she eats NOTHING cooked. Have you gone to the Hallelujah Acres website and read the testimonies on Parkinson's? There is one there and I am familiar with the woman. To my knowledge she is still doing very well, 6 years after that testimony was written. Shari ~~~~~No! But I certainly will go and read. The thing is, I have to allow my husband/best friend TIME to rearrange his thinking. It's only been two weeks today since the diagnosis/bomb dropped in on us! Wherever it is we need to go, I have absolute confidence we'll get there. I definitely appreciate everyone's time and energy in answering my questions, and I DO feel I am learning neat-o keen stuff! Guest guest
This is a copy of a recipe I received from a friend at college. She is from Ecuador, so some of it is a little garbled. Janet 3 Ib of Ecuadorian Shrimps (preferred 41-50 counts) 10 oranges (not ripe, if they are still green, better) 5 limes 1 medium red onion, slice into thing pieces 2 medium diced tomatoes 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro, plus several springs for garnish 1 tablespoon of salt 2 tablespoons of olive oil, preferably extra-virgin Preparation: 1. Cook and marinate the shrimps. Bring 1 quart of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of limejuice. Scoop the shrimps into the hot water, cover it and let the water return to boil. Remove from the boiling water after 5 min. Set aside and pour off all the liquid. Cover the pot and let the shrimps steam off the heat for 10 minutes. Spread out the shrimp in large glass or stainless steel bowl to cool completely. Peel the shrimp and devein if you wish: One-by-one lay the shrimp on your work surface, make a shallow incision down the back and scrape out the dark intestinal tract. Toss the shrimp with the juice of 2 limes, cover and refrigerate for about an hour. 2. The flaVSrifigs; In a small strainer, rinse tnS fS^ 8rlJ8n§ IffiagF COM MfeF; ffld 8Ut t«S 8ffl8R ffltS feffl slices, add the juice of the remaining 3 limes, salt, cilantro and let rest for about 20 minutes. Add the mix to the shrimps, cover and refrigerate if not serving immediately. 3. Serving the Ceviche: Spoon the Ceviche into glass bowls, martini glasses, or small ceramic bowls, garnish with springs of cilantro and diced chili. Serve with bread. Corn tostados or chifles. Of course you have to go to Ecuador to enjoy this delicious dish. Note: This Ceviche is excellent to cure the " chuchaqui " (hangover) and also, is aphrodisiac, and a good source of vitamin D. On a negative note, this dish may be high in cholesterol. From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of SV Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2008 2:34 PM health Subject: Re: Raw Diet? Thanks Sharyn. I posted before I read yours. I love ceviche! Have not found a good source since my favorite restaurant quit making it and I don't want to make it at home. I know there are a couple of 5 star restaurants in downtown Seattle that are know for their ceviche and I'm going to find them this summer! Living here is a great place for raw fish seeing as we're flying distance from Alaska and fresh fish. The Pacific ocean is only a couple hours from me, however I have to be careful to only get salmon from Natives as the whiteman is not allowed to take wild salmon. Luckily I'm " in " with the Tulalips. Later - S
Guest guest
Some people have an immune response to some grains, and they definitely should not have them in any form. Sharyn's links worked, so I read Harriet's story. I'm finding that H is more and more open to the idea of me overhauling his/our diets (Sharyn!
