Guest guest
I'm no expert, but I did read in a book on the topic that they could be a problem. However, the mercury-free dentist I got the book from confirmed that Sonicare toothbrushes are just fine, and even really good to keep teeth clean so long as you avoid the amalgam. Since my amalgams are on the chewing surface, he though that it was better to use the Sonicare and just avoid brushing the chewing surface where the amalgams were. ________________________________ From: Ross <mrossgrp@...> Sent: Monday, January 12, 2009 3:02:48 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Mercury Fillings Speaking of brushing your teeth, does anyone know whether it's been established that the ultrasonic toothbrushes (e.g. Sonicare) release exponentially more mercury vapor from fillings than manual ones? Guest guest
-> agitation of the fillings will cause an increase in release of mercury vapors. Avoid brushing the amalgams, avoid chewing gum, hot liquids. I don't know if there is actual proof in regards to Sonicare, but Dr. Huggins did establish that brushing the fillings or chewing gum, after eating etc, increased the mercury vapor for a period of hours after. I would go back to the old toothbrush because you can control where and what that brushes and how hard. See if you notice any improvements. > ________________________________ > From: Ross <mrossgrp@...> > > Sent: Monday, January 12, 2009 3:02:48 PM > Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Mercury Fillings > > > Speaking of brushing your teeth, does anyone know whether it's been > established that the ultrasonic toothbrushes (e.g. Sonicare) release > exponentially more mercury vapor from fillings than manual ones? Guest guest
Hello All. I have a question in regards to mercury fillings and root canals. My doctor keep asking me if i made an appointment with a specialist who removes mercury fillins and root canals because he is saying it is causing the bacteria to enter into the body. He insists that i remove them. I have two mercury fillings and probably 2-3 root canals. I know that there are books out there written about root canals and how it can trigger the disease because it is the perfect place for bacteria to enter. But what other choice we have if not to do the root canal? Any comments or can you share your experience with root canals? thank you
Guest guest
Prior to my joint issues (which I categorize as a TH 1 dominant illness, not RA), I had been diagnosed with Chronic fatigue syndrome. I took every approach to heal, including having my amalgam (mercury-containing) fillings removed. What I found was that it was a baby step in feeling better. It helped me get over a systemic yeast infection. I have since been told that yeast actually help protect our bodies from mercury...remove the mercury and the yeast will go away. That proved true for me...and no miserable herx from Nystatin (a Rx drug for candida yeast). As for root canals, that's a tough decision. My symptoms actually started one month after my first root canal. I went to a practitioner who uses MSA (meridian stress assessment) which uses an electronic probe pressed against the skin to assess the level of function of just about everything in our bodies. She tested the molar with the root canal and said it was fine. I had read on an RA website that MSA was a reliable test for determining health of a root canal. Here's a link to an explanation of MSA. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_245/ai_111496942/ Then this summer during a routine dental exam, the panoramic xray showed an abscess in my jawbone above a molar. The endodontist said it had been infected and festering for a year or more. The time frame that my symptoms first started! When I took a round of antibiotics for it, ALL of my joint symptoms went away. I did have a root canal and my symptoms are slowly returning. Urgh. I have been seeing a physical therapist who uses a laser on both my back and my hands and feet. The laser is tuned to a frequency that inhibits the inflammation caused by my immune cells. I told him about the abscess in my jawbone and that the endontist cleaned out my tooth in doing the root canal, but left the abscess in my jawbone for my body to heal...stating that the source of the infection had been removed, so my body will heal the bone. My physical therapist said there is a setting on the laser for bacteria. So, He placed the laser on my jaw during my last treatment on Thursday morning. By Thursday evening I had noticeable improvement in my hands. I go back again today. I will find out how others can find a PT who uses this type of laser treatment and write a follow up post for those interested. It has really helped me. At one point my feet hurt so much my husband said I was walking like enstein. The laser treatments took all the pain and inflammation out of my feet and has kept my hands functioning. Back to dental health. Pulling teeth is not always the best option as it can lead to cavitations in the jawbone which are pockets of infection. I was on the fence as to whether I should pull this last tooth or get a root canal. That my first root canal tested to be ok by MSA, I entrusted him to perform another one on me. Also that I am already short on molars from having had my wisdom teeth extracted along with 7 other teeth for braces as a kid, I didn't want to lose anymore teeth. With the laser treatment, I am hopeful that I made the right decision. I have also started AP and am just reading about MP. I am thankful to all who contribute to this site with their experiences. It opens so many doors. Thank you.

Guest guest
Hi Amy, I definitely would be interested in a therapist that does this lazer and also your follow up. Since you took antibiotics and had a cut back of symptoms you should use that same antibiotic . Guest guest
I just wanted to jump in to say that I had jaw surgery to remove my cavitations, and it was a vital part of my recovery. Before the surgery, I could barely tolerate the AP; the herxing was excruciating. After getting the cavitations removed, I could tolerate the Minocin easily, which led to my full recovery from severe dermatomyositis.
