Guest guest
I’ve never had it with freshwater fish, but I don’t know why not. It’s just a method of curing/cooking without heat. Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of I asked earlier, but it got lost, I think, in all the posts! Can that stuff be made with freshwater fish, like, say, trout? DH said he'd be game to try it but ONLY if he knew for a fact that the fish was TODAY'S. Which means either we are visiting in FL again, or his sister and her husband land some trout. And share! Just curious, as it clearly won't be happening today. No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG. Guest guest
Ceviche chicken or calling me chicken?<VBG> I’ve not had a lot of freshwater fish…grew up on fishing boats in the Atlantic in south Florida…eating the good stuff just as it came off the boat. I’ve never really developed a taste for freshwater fish.<G> Although I’m sure just about any fish right out of the water is good. I’m not sure I would ceviche chicken…it was easy enough for me to do without chicken the year I was 100% raw. (I just wish I’d develop the willpower/backbone to do it again! I felt wonderful, looked wonderful…being married to a pasta and bread-eating Italian may have only that one drawback.<G>) Sharyn, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary tomorrow (but going out to dinner tonight) From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Hmmm....chicken.....!!! Guest guest
Ceviche chicken or calling me chicken?<VBG> ~~~~I was referring to the process, NEVER you!!! I’ve not had a lot of freshwater fish…grew up on fishing boats in the Atlantic in south Florida…eating the good stuff just as it came off the boat. I’ve never really developed a taste for freshwater fish.<G> Although I’m sure just about any fish right out of the water is good. ~~~~~...and there you have it. I, who am a bona fide, card-carrying, dyed-in-the-wool NON fish eater, actually enjoyed some mahi-mahi while on a snorkeling tour in the Keys. It had been caught that morning on their deep-sea fishing tour. I hear the same is true about trout that just came out of the river. I’m not sure I would ceviche chicken…it was easy enough for me to do without chicken the year I was 100% raw. ~~~~~Truth is, I was being a smart-aleck! (I understand that would be difficult to appreciate, since I rarely do that sort of thing...)! I have to say - I find it curious that some people who are bona fide, card carrying, dyed-in-the-wool vegetarians will eat fish! It is as though fish somehow got excluded from the "fauna" file!! (I'm not saying I care one way or the other, mind you - I just find it to be a peculiar phenomenon). As to chicken - I like it, but for my carnivorous tendencies, I must say I am a red-meat kind of person. (Apologies to those of you who are gasping at that). Henry and I decided last Thanksgiving that the turkey could go - I roasted a prime rib. I'm not sure I could ever be truly happy as a total vegetarian, but I am already noticing a remarkable reduction in my meat (of any/every sort) consumption. (I just wish I’d develop the willpower/backbone to do it again! I felt wonderful, looked wonderful…being married to a pasta and bread-eating Italian may have only that one drawback.<G>) ~~~~~And there you have hit on my next question! I have seen that a few people mentioned being raw foodists "before" - but not continuing. Wha' hoppened?? As to eating what he eats - I don't seem to find it that difficult to fix food for Henry, or buy stuff he likes, without ever touching it. But then, it's stuff like fish! Or raisin bran... {:-p Sharyn, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary tomorrow (but going out to dinner tonight) ~~~~Well, congratulations! And enjoy your meal, whatsoever it may be! H and I have got a few years on you and your hubby!!! (Obviously, we started at 12 years old...) :-O :-D Ev (who is wondering how in the heck to give up cheese)?!? Guest guest
You do know that mahi-mahi is just the native name for dolphin-fish, right?<G> (Not the Flipper kind…the rainbow snub-nosed kind.) Yum! YOU?!?!? A smart-aleck? Never!<VBG> And I will admit that I like my red meat on occasion, too. It was easy for me to do without chicken or pork, but the occasional near-to-raw beef was a must-have! As to wha’ happened…I kind of inched away from it over time. I’d make a nice big pasta dish and then eat some of it. Nearest I seem to be able to do now is “raw until dinner,” and then eat only a little cooked food for dinner. (Of course, tonight’s special anniversary dinner was different…but until dinner I only had grapefruit juice with my vitamins in the morning, two tall glasses of watermelon juice at lunchtime, then a yogurt in midafternoon…yogurt’s not raw, but I allow it because it has the good bacteria.) How few years, Ev? We met in 1982, but didn’t get married until 1988…so we’ve got a few more than 20 years in the can…just 20 “officially.”<BG> Cheese? There are some good raw cheeses out there, which I’ll eat in a heartbeat. (Cheese made from raw milk…and I’ll even drink milk if it’s raw, but that’s hard to come by in Florida these days.)
