Guest guest
I'm and I have been a member of this group since I was pregnant with my first daughter, Myah (who just turned 7!). I was surfing around the web and found a site for Val Surbey's family and got a recommendation to come here. What a blessing it has been! Myah was born with duodenal atresia, ASV, VSD, and PDA. The heart problems corrected themselves, she had a repair at 1 day old for the stomach blockage. She came home at 6 days old eating normally-no problems. Since, she has had 7 other misc surgeries, 5 of which are ear tubes because she can not hear without tubes. The newest set went in 12/14/07. In 2003 we were the ambassador family for our county's MRDD program and Myah was on 30 billboards, and thousands of yard sings, tee-shirts, and even Myah tattoos! I got to speak to about 1000 people about Myah and what county services were doing for her. She loved every minute of it! She especially LOVES men! When Myah turned 3 things started to change and suddenly Myah was incredibly difficult to deal with and tantrumed often, being physically violent to me and others. We started going to doctors and tried to get help. We tried every behavior plan and chart out there. Time outs, spankings (yes, we did it!), and stickers, blah, blah, blah. Finally in early 07 we made it to the neurologist and she was diagnosed as having ADHD, OCD and Tourette's. We finally felt like we were getting somewhere! She was put on Adderall and off we went. We noticed a huge improvement and it was unheard of to skip a day. From May to October she lost 11 pounds and started to look really bad. She was almost 7 and 38 pounds. Her hair had no luster and she was just plain sick. I knew something was wrong, but the doctors chalked it up to her Adderall. Finally, at church I took her to the altar and turned her over to God. Many prayed over her. That Friday, we got our answer. I made her another doctor appointment on Wednesday for excessive drinking and bed wetting-I knew what was going on. I demanded blood work and Myah was diagnosed as diabetic. That night in the hospital her sugar was 600. So now we are 2 months into diabetes, 4 insulin shots a day and lots of finger sticks, but she coping quite well and is almost able to test herself independently. She knows when she is low and we can tell when she's high (remember those tantrums and hyperactivity??). It turns out that she does not have ADHD at all, just diabetes. She is in first grade in special education. She is full of life and the most loving and care-giving child. Her newest trick includes crossing her eyes to make you laugh! What a nut! She loves to do the penguin dance and entertains others at school in the hallway with that one-so I've been told. She just started answering the question when you ask her what her name is. I crack up. Her name is Myah Spilios and she says yaya sillios. Of course you have to picture a little attitude in there. Other than Myah, I have a husband, Christian of 10 years and 2 other daughters, Shianne, 3 and Isabella, 5 months. I was 22 when Myah was born and we did know prenatally from ultrasound markers. I had refused the triple screen tests-for some odd reason...lol We decided against it with the other 2 as well. I work full time outside the home so our lives are crazy busy. 3 just tips the scale for wanting to get everyone bundled up to go ANYWHERE! I greatly appreciate this group. I have been given such wonderful advice and also come for a shoulder to cry on. Thank you all. And to the moderators-thank you. Other groups-I have been there and they are a waste of e-mails with lots of off topic items and just junk. I have always gotten answers and replies that I counted on right away here and I am grateful for that. God Bless, Spilios
