Guest guest
Hi guys, The Uk DS list I belong to is doing a most memorable moment for 2007. This is what I sent them. Is anyone interested in sharing ? It can be funny, sad and about anyone in your family, or all of them, ds or not. Lets brag, laugh cry or just share a little. If I'm out of line, again, please let me know, either on list or privately. A very hot and humid, with our beaches still closed due to huge seas, Aussie ( Mum of 6 from No 1 20 yr old son, the terror 3 yr old twins and Georgia 10 ds, holes in her heart til 20 months, AML at 22 months, her 1st period at age 9, a suspected brain tumor this year, a neurologist appt in Feb... And that's just one kid ...) Hi Guys, As a mum of 6, I have had lots of memorable moments in 2007 ( some amazing and some downright, OMG, really, hopefully will dim with time lol ! ) So, I'll only bore you with Georgie's most memorable moments in 2007. 1) Her receiving her silver medal for long jump at our State Catholic school s carnival. 2) Her representing the Catholic School system in the State Athletics Carnival, and coming 8th in the State while being the only ds kid in her division. 3) The tests she had the day after the State carnival proving that she doesn t have a brain tumor. ( What's wrong with her we haven't worked out yet !!! We see a neurologist in Feb ...) 4) Our school presentation night, when, in front if the whole school and all the parents etc, the kids are called up to receive awards for everything they have achieved in the 2007 school year. Please remember that we start school at the end of January and finish just before Christmas. There were only 3 kids who went to State this year and Georgie was the 1st one called up. The whole school, got to their feet and clapped and cheered, chanting " Go ! " She received her medal from our Principal and then the other 2 kids came out by passed him and gave G a huge hug, before they went and got their medal. I looked around, and Ross and 3 other dads were standing behind where I was sitting, and they all had tears running down their faces. Then I looked around and saw so many other parents and older siblings who had been at Primary school with G, who also had tears in their eyes. Then I lost it, an cried tears of pure joy, as I was overwhelmed by the genuine support G has in her school. It was just such a magic moment, for all of us. Our kids just make such a difference to everyone they touch. All kids are special, but ds kids are unique because of the effect they have on other people. Sorry this is so long, but just be grateful I'm not doing the whole list of triumphs and tragedies for the other 5 (lol), Happy New Year everyone, Aussie -- Re: [DS-UK] The best bit of 2007 It's a toss up between the emerging wonderful thing and the one that has happened already. Owen now speaks in three word sentences, some of them entirely original. After all the years of dealing with SLTs ... or rather, being told there aren't any available to come and see him, perhaps his learning assistant would like some instructions ... it is wonderful. The other is an emerging excitement: he has not worn a pull up during the day for 3 weeks. He isn't completely dry and still resists toilet trips, but it's mostly leakage, not big wees. And not a single poo incident. Wow. My boy is growing up. *********************************************** To subscribe and unsubscribe to the DS-UK discussion list go to: http://listserv.down-syndrome.net/archives/ds-uk.html The DS-UK mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV® list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP® mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
