Guest guest
My little girl, Amber at age five, is mimicing the other students in her kindergarter class. I think it is great that she is trying to develope social skills with them, but it seems to be causing problems. Many of the children in her class are lower functioning. I volunteer at her school daily. I love them all dearly, But each one has thier own little behavior problems. Amber doesn't seem to want to immitate there unique skills but instead, she thinks it's more fun to mirror the " funny " things they do. At recess she likes to sit in the dirt now instead of useing any equipment or play with her peers. Also, she has learned to throw herself on the floor whenever she is asked to follow instuctions. Her school does not support incusion practices. Her teacher seems burnt out. I have arranged for her to have lunch with the second graders and recess two days a week with everyone else. what else can be done. I would like for her to spend time with a bigger group of students rather than be limited to her little class. Also, is there a way to encourage her to immitate her friend's positive traits instead? Most of us(parents and children) get together outside of school often. Is this just what happens? Thanx

Least restrictiver environment is the law and they HAVE to do that if a child qualifies. It should be a given in kindergarten that she be included with accomadations. I would question them about this. **************Start the year off right. Do you have an advocacy group or legal services for the disabled in your area?
