I've been gradually involving my Mom - long distance, since she and my Dad live in Illinois, whereas my wife and I live in North Carolina - and although Mom's so far primarily focused on nutrition, she's already noticed a positive difference! There's nothing quite like getting others involved. Guest guest
Amy- I personally would get the script for the helmet. Our doctor also gave us the whole " give it some time " crap. We hadn't seen any improvement in a month, so I requested the script too. If people you don't know are commenting on it, I would definelty be inclined to go for it. Our dr. said Dane's plagio was " mild. " When we actually got him measured, he was moderate, measuring 17 mm off! Getting concrete numbers really reinforced to us the need to act quickly. Do you live near a Cranial Tech? I would really recommend using them if they are anywhere near where you live. Guest guest
rachel, cranial tech is about a 3 hour drive (each way) from me. the neurosurgeon didn't do any measurements - do they do that at cranial tech? amy > > hi. emma and i had our appointment with the pediatric neurosurgeon > at > > Duke's children's hospital yesterday. he said her plagio was > > " moderate, " but at this time he just recommended repositioning. he > > wants us to come back in one month to see if the repositioning > > improves her condition. emma is already six months old, and we > have > > been repositioning ever since i initially made the appointment > with > > the neurosurgeon 6 weeks ago. her tort is improving, but she still > > favors sleeping with her head turned to the right. i can put her > to > > sleep one way, but she moves during the night. > > what are people's thoughts on waiting another month? the doctor > said > > he would write us a prescription for the helmet, if that's what we > > really wanted, but he didn't recommend it at this time. i keep > reading > > that the longer you wait, the less full correction is possible. my > > husband does not want to do the helmet, but i would never forgive > > myself if we did nothing and then she never improved. her ears are > > really misaligned and her forehead is higher on one side. i had > her in > > the baby bjorn the other day, and some woman in line commented > that > > one of her cheeks was much bigger than the other - so i know i'm > not > > the obsessed mom my husband seems to think i am. other people can > see > > it too. > > i'd appreciate any feedback. > > thanks! > > amy > > mom to emma (born 9/24/01)
Guest guest
Amy - yes they do. I know some of the sites have a free consultation. I was shocked when I got those numbers. I was upset the ped didn't tell me about the consult when he was dx at 2 month! Especially considering that we are 15 minutes away. Guest guest
Amy: Odds are that if you have not had much success with repositioing already, you probably won't get any addt'l success over this next month. I also never had any good success repositioning my daughter. IF you do decide to get her a helmet/band - it would most likely be another month until you actually had the band on Emma's head. On average it takes 2 wks after the casting to receive the band. You are right - the younger you begin a helmet/band, the better & faster the results will be. I know what it's like to have a " stubborn " and unagreeing husband about a helmet. My husband thought it was " mean " to put Abby in her helmet, but after a few wks in it, he was thrilled I made the decision I did. Ultimately, the decision is up to you. I don't want to tell you one way or another! Good luck - Please let us know what you decide to do.
