Guest guest
Hey everybody, I'm finally posting, I just haven't had the chance, taxes and all. Kai got his second helmet last Wed. It's going okay, I say just okay because he does still have some trouble with redness. Our orthotist really feels like it's from moisture (as opposed to pressure)and said he might just have to wear it and get used to it. His wearing schedule still is not 23 hrs a day, but we're working on it. The orthotist also said to go ahead and put it back on if it's still pink, although not if it's still dark red. He thinks he needs to wear it to get used to it like I said. This helmet is right above his brow and the hole on top is smaller too which I think is good. It goes on easy and so that's a relief, we see our orthotist next Wed. But I may call him sooner if we can't get past those red spots. One of our friends told us the other day when the helmet was off that she could see and improvement, yeah! IT's exciting to hear that like I said before with the limited amount of time he's been able to wear it. Sorry to leave you hanging mother to Kai, Columbia MO. Guest guest
Hi : Things do sound to be going ok for Kai & his new STARband.....I agree with Marci though about the red spots that aren't totally going away w/i one hour, keep pressing your orthotist about the red areas. They really should be going away w/i one hour. Hopefully Kai will be able to wear it 23 hrs soon to get more improvement, that's great you're seeing changes though! Thanks for the update. Guest guest
- Thanks all for responding to my post, when you guys (Marci and Debbie), talk about the red spots going away in 1 hr. do you mean you can't tell they were even there, not even pink? I'm thinking about calling the orthotist if not improved soon. And when you say adjustments, is that when they shave off a little of the foam, or use heat? Kai probably wore the band for 16 hrs today, still alot to be desired. Oh and also, does anyone else see the band pushing down on the brow, distorting the eyes, depending on what position, like sitting in a chair etc, their baby is in? I guess because the back of the band has pressure on it? Guest guest
, Really I would not be comfortable if the spots did not fade completely in an hour. I would watch them for a couple of days and if the problem persists then I think an adjustment would be in order. You are correct about what an adjustment consists of. Good to hear that he is up to 16 hours. He'll be at 23 hours in no time! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi : Do Kai's red spots EVER go away? Or does it take like an entire day for them to totally fade away? As long as they aren't bright red, they might be ok, but it's hard for me to say! I would definitely call your orthotist about them. Kai should be able to wear his STARband longer than 16 hrs a day at this point - it's been a week now right? Adjustments do often mean shaving away some of the inner foam/pad - the pad might be too tight on him on the areas where the redness is. Abby also had her STARband pushing down on her eyes, especially her left eye. It drove me crazy, she didn't seem to mind. Finally after a couple weeks of her orthotist telling me it was ok, I made him trim away some of that area that was squishing her eye. After that, the problem was solved. That might be needed for Kai's band too. I really hope he gets up to 23 hrs a day soon! Good luck.
