Rae,

Hope the holidays were good for you and your family.

I actually understood exactly what you were saying. There are really two

school of thoughts on plagio - one that says it is only cosmetic and the

other that says that untreated plagio can lead to other medical

complications. My neuro was of the school of thought that untreated plagio

can lead to other complications such as TMJ, vision problems, speech and

language delays, developmental delays, migraines, increased incidents of ear

infections and seizures. I must stress that he only believes that it COULD

lead to some of these issues, not that it will. 's condition was severe

and we started helmet therapy at 9 months old. We did not get 100% correction

and we have not noticed any of the issues listed above except the ear

infections and I really couldn't say if that is related or not. (She has

tubes now and is doing GREAT)

OK, now I'm rabbling. I hope I got somewhere at least near what you were

looking for! Best wishes to you and your family!

Hello all and thankyou for all the welcome messages :o)

Sorry it has taken me a few days to reply but school holidays here at the moment and it is like a mad house,, (hmm as opposed to the normaly sane house it isnt.. lol).I noticed there is another new comer named (Hi and welcome as well ) so I think I will sign using my middle name as well ( Rae) to help avoid confusion..

Someone asked where abouts in Australia I am ,I am in Melbourne and will be seeing the team at the Childrens hospital here, not certain yet but from what his doctor said I think it will be the craniofacial unit where he has been many times for his cleft palate.

I hadnt even considered the possibility of surgery,, I know from reading all the posts here and what I have read on the net that he is probably a little to old for the helmet now,, I guess it will depend on what the doctors say,, but I have been asking people like mad for their opinion from a cosmetic point of view just to make sure its not just my mummy bias that says his head looks fine,,, well it DOES look fine, just how obvious it is to others,, grrr.. I cant get this to make sense but I am hoping you all get the idea of what I mean.

I will try and get some photos of him soon to join the gallery of all the other beautifull children I have been looking at here.

So I guess untill we see the doctor it is just a bit of limbo and finding out all I can so I have some idea of what they are talking about, But a question for anyone who may know,, is there a reason for the surgery apart from cosmetic? Not that I dont think its important for that reason was just curious if there was any other effects form the plagio..

Anyways I know I have a habit of babbling on in emails so I am going to cut it short and look forward to talking to you all soon,,,

Rae and family :o)
