Guest guest
Hi everyone. Today i was at the grocery store with Dylan and another mom came up to me and said " i hope you don't mind me asking but my young daughter wants to know why he has the helmet on his head " . i was happy to explain and she kept saying i hope i have not offended you by asking i said " no problem " and she said i was very sweet about it - that made my day. I thought of you guys straight away when the mom asked me. I am exactly the same i have not seen anyone out with a helmet on only at the hospital, but when i am asked about it i alway answer and i am happy to do that. I usually end up chatting for a while as i am a terrible chatterbox - lol!! best wishes Kerry (marcus 3 Dylan 1) Calgary,Alberta _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Guest guest
Kerry, Wow - that sounds like a really positive experience! That's great - it kind of renews your faith in humankind as intelligent, caring people. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma

Guest guest
I know the feeling. It's like your the mommy lion protecting her cub and sometimes, depending on your mood, your ready to strike out! But, I found that smiling a lot made people confused, like, why is she smiling with a child that has that on his head? Maybe it's not that bad? When the stares got intense, I started singing " I know better, I know better " and held even closer, kissing him (sounds pathetic, but it got me through!)- and I did know better, because people will think the worst! One lady said when her child asked for a helmet like that, " there's nothing wrong with your head " - I almost went balistic in the nuero's office and wanted to really tell her a few things, but didn't. I gave people a little slack, but I would never approach someone and ask them personal info and especially in a rude way!!! Some people are just plain ignorant! Guest guest
Hi Kerry, I feel the same way. I'd rather people ask about 's helmet then assume the worse or stare. I am very happy to explain to them the reason why she is wearing a helmet. It gives me the opportunity to inform people about plagiocephaly. Most people do not know about this. Let's face it alot of peds and people in the medical field our clueless about this. You did a good job! --- Kerry <kerry_jg@...> wrote: > > > Hi everyone. > > Today i was at the grocery store with Dylan and > another mom came up to me > and said " i hope you don't mind me asking but my > young daughter wants to > know why he has the helmet on his head " . i was > happy to explain and she > kept saying i hope i have not offended you by asking > i said " no problem " > and she said i was very sweet about it - that made > my day. Guest guest
I don't mind being asked about the band as long as it's phrased in an appropriate manner, not " What's wrong with him? " or " Did you drop him on his head? " or my favorite, " Is he retarded? " Tuesday we were at a wake and as we were approaching the family, the funeral director came up and said " That's really cool. Is that a crash helmet? " He got a freebie because I wasn't going to let him have it at a wake! I talked to a lady at the mall for a half an hour last week. I love educating people as long as they have some manners! Nobody wants to hear rude things about her child! Dane's mom
Guest guest
Kerry: I also loved it when people would come up to us & politely ask about Abby's bands! I NEVER took any offense to any asking about it, I loved to answer & explain what it was for. I always people would ask before they opened their mouths (like " is that to protect her from bumps & bruises? " ). I always got a kick out of younger kids asking me " what's on her head? " and watching their parents turn so red! It was no big deal!
