Guest guest
My son has had his locally made passive helmet for 8 months, with 3 to go. He started with moderate plagio/brachio, and now has mild plagio/brachio. With only 3 months to go, and he is 18 months now, will we see improvement over time without his helmet on. Like, will nature maybe take over, and correct itself as he gets older. I am very grateful that he only has a mild case now, and once his hair thickens we will probably see even greater results, but I was wondering if anyone knew if it would improve even more with time? Thank you. Lori.
Guest guest
Lori, There is a school of thought that once the baby's head starts to correct there will be a tendency to continue to correct even when the helmet comes off. My ortho held this opinion. He also explained that as the head grows and the skull continues to lay bone down and become thicker that there was potential for some more slight improvement. I don't know if I'm just fooling myself, but I believe that has made some slight additional improvement. She also has grown some more hair and that kind of masks whatever residual problems still remain. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Lori, I think at 18 months of age its really anyone's guess as to whether much more change will occur. I have heard that we reach our adult sized head shape by 2 years old, so maybe there is some room to grow there. Seems like 8 months plus 3 equals a very long duration in the helmet- but I know some of our members have been close to that number as well. If you feel its worth it, the 3 months will probably whiz by. Good luck with your decision! ' Mom
