Guest guest
Hi my son Reid got his helmut today. he did very well So we are keeping our fingers crossed that he continues to adjust postively. We chose to have the Pats helmut embedded on the back of the helmut and my husband and I do not care for how it looks (it is warped) SO I went out and bought acrylic paint and painted it white to then decorate with stickers. However, after waiting an hour to paint the second coat it started to peel. so I scrub it all off and now we are back to square one. Do I have do do the acrylic varnish after every coat? Did anyone else have this problem? I know it isn't a big deal but I just want it to look cute - Any help, suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks - Sue (mom of Reid)
Guest guest
Sue: I am glad Reid is doing well in his new helmet! I didn't paint my daughter's helmet, but check out this link for advice on painting helmets: http://www.plagiocephaly.org/support/decorate.htm Hope that'll answer your question. Keep us posted on Reid's progress. Guest guest
The place where we got our helmet suggested sanding it lightly before painting. I assume this is so the paint adheres better. If that doesn't work, see if there is some kind of water based acrylic primer you can use. They spray with the Acrylic varnish once it's all done. Guest guest
Hi Sue and welcome! Good to hear that Reid is adjusting well - that is great! We never used paint, but many people here have and I believe that they used the varnish after every layer of paint. Check out www.plagiocephaly.org/support and click on decorating tips for some helpful hints. Good to have you in the group and I hope you will share more of your story with us! Guest guest
I painted my God Son's helmet a month ago and a light sanding will help the paint stick better.
