Awww, aren't they so cute?! So I may be a bit biased! Isn't it a

good thing they are cute. What a drag that would be having to look

at not one, but TWO ugly babies all month long! Just kidding! I

will try to keep this brief, but as we all know, I'm not very good at

that ;o)

Kaylie is my Baby A, and was very crammed way down in my pelvis.

During the last few months, the ultrasound tech couldn't even measure

her head because she was so low. In fact, I used to be in so much

pain at times, that my OB explained to me that it was just my pelvic

bones separating trying to accomodate Kay. Danny, on the other hand,

was turning somersaults all the time, but then finally settled in on

a breech position.

I guess it was when they were about 2 months, my mom had noticed that

Kaylie's head was a little flat on the left side and that her ears

weren't symmetrical. So I started to lay her in her crib so that her

feet would be where her head used to rest and vice versa, but she

still looked to the one side. And of course when I mentioned it to

the ped, he told us that once she starts to sit up more, then it will

round out on its own.

Shortly there after, when I was holding Danny on my lap, I noticed

that his head was totally flat on the backside of his head. Around

that time, my mom had come across an article at iwon.com on

torticollis leading to flat heads, also known as plagiocephaly. With

that I was able to do so much research and I found this group. At

the twins 4 month appointment, my ped ruled out tort for Kaylie and

gave me the number to a neurosurgeon. Our neuro wanted us to

reposition them for another month and then come back. When we went

back, he felt that they had improved enough that they wouldn't need a

band. But I wasn't as sure and pushed until he wrote the

prescription.

Kaylie and Danny recieved their STARbands when they were just about 8

months old. Kaylie, who was diagnosed as mild plagio, wore her band

for 4 months. Danny, who was diagnosed as mild/moderate

brachycephaly, wore his band for 3 months. We received about 85-90%

correction for both of them and I couldn't be more thrilled. We had

a wonderful ortho, and all the members who were here while we were

going through this all know how highly I think of my ortho ;o)

Since graduating form their STARbands, Kaylie has had some minor

rounding of her own. Once in awhile I think I can still see some

facial assym. but I think its because I know it is there. Kaylie and

Danny are now featured at Orthomerica's webpage as part of their All

STAR team. (If this wasn't a long enough version of their story, you

can read more there!) They were also a feature in the December

STARnews, which is the STARband newsletter (Thank you Dulcey for all

the copies!)

As I wrap this up (hey, I only said I would TRY to keep it brief) I

want to thank all of the friends I have made during the year-plus

that I have been a member. You have no idea how much advice, solace,

and laughs that you have brought to me. I just hope that I cam

provide the same in return. To all the new people who are just

finding us, you have come to a wonderful place.
