Guest guest
Hi everyone. Chris' aid sent me info on the freerice.com website, which I think is great, so I am forwarding it to lots of folks involved with kids or disabilities. It is a website that has a vocabulary game, and every time you click a correct answer, they donate 20 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. This is a legitimate program- those of you that know me, know that before I forward anything on (which I rarely do), I check it out at snopes.com. : ) The program is appropriate for people just learning English all the way up to English professors. As you play, it measures how you do to determine harder or easier levels. It is funded from ads on its pages. Besides vocabulary-building, it could easily be used for school projects, such as a joint langauge arts and math project determining how many grains of rice donated by a class/person and the value of that rice, etc. I know most kids are going to spend at least a little of their summer vacation playing games on the computer, so why not point them to a game that helps them and others at the same time?
