Guest guest
Debbie- haha...don't feel bad. Last month when I took for his first helmet check-up, when we were leaving, there was a lady in the waiting room with her helmeted little boy and her husband. I was trying to point out to that another baby had a hat just like him, although he had no clue anyway. The woman was nice, but way too secure with the helmet, I thought. I mean, I think we get used to them after a while, but do we ever really "love" the helmets or bands? I don't know...maybe some of us do, but not me. I tolerate it. Anyway, I said, "Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen another baby with a helmet in person." She snips back, "Oh, I see them everywhere. Where have you been? I see them at Toys R Us, Costco, everywhere." I said, "Well, I must be shopping in all the wrong places. The only place I ever see other helmeted babies is on a support website I belong to." I was going to give her the site, because her husband said, "Really? There's a website?" and really seemed genuinely interested, but she says, "Oh, well, I've never needed any support. I love the helmet. I absolutely love it." I was just like, "Okay....." And then the other day when I was doing a deposition, while we were on a break, the witness started talking to me. She was talking about her baby, and then somehow we started talking about and his flat head and the helmet therapy. She was horrified when I told her he was wearing a helmet and acted like I was overreacting. Then she mentioned that she had noticed that her two-month-old son was developing a flat spot on the very back of his head, so I jumped in and told her that she should start repositioning him now so that she can avoid such a helmet. I don't think she even listened to me. Oh, well....people are rude. SIGH! Kellie
Guest guest
Hmm, interesting reaction. I can't believe that woman was so nonchalant about the helmet - what a strange person. I only ran into one person the whole time ws wearing her helmet that had a helmeted baby and that baby was wearing his helmet post-operatively after surgery for cranio! Guest guest
While I was getting my groceries this afternoon, I ran into another STARbanded baby. I was bummed I didn't have Abby with me (not really, I was able to shop in peace after all!hehe). Anyhoo, the cute boy looked to be about 6 mos or so. The mom, who was surprisingly rude & short to me, said he just began treatment & also has pt for his tort.. That was it - she didn't want to chit chat at all. It's not like I said he looked like an Easter Egg in his band or anything! I told her right away how my daughter had to wear a band, etc., etc.. She really couldn't have cared less! So, I wished her well & went on my merry way. I guess not everyone isn't as nice as me *my husband would argue that!*. Guest guest
Debbie & Kellie: That woman was rude! I would love it I saw another baby with a helmet. I practically yearn for someone to talk to about it. Ever since Josh has had his helmet (4 weeks now) people just stare & bold ones ask "What is with his head? Does he have a head injury? I would hate to think they think I am abusing my child, but hey I am approachable "ask away" I would love to say. Oh well, I am probably learning as much from Josh wearing the helmet as he is benefitting. I hate to wish time away, but I wish it would go faster in this case. e & Josh Re: Saw another banded baby Debbie-haha...don't feel bad.
