Guest guest
Trish, That is scary! We do have an alarm system now - but I caught crawling out of his bedroom window the other day-so I need to check into getting that window hooked up. Keep working with Jodie - I had a behaviorist once tell me that it was ok to spank on his butt if he did something dangerous and needed immediate discipline. Keep working with Jodie to tell you when she is leaving. It's tiring but she will get it. The last time I lost was at a home/hardware store. He just wanted to be independent. The only article I know is the one at http://www.disabilitysolutions.org. I use to dream of duct tape...lol! Hang in there! -- cindysue@... Help! Jodie wandering Hi everyone, This is what happened last wednesday, I went and had a sleep at approx 4.10pm as I have been getting sinus through the night and not sleeping very well, checked on Jodie and told her where I was, when I woke up I couldn't find her, she had gone out the laundry door downstairs which is normally locked but one of us must have forgot to lock it. the time was 5.00 by now, got in the car and started looking, Danny was out looking on foot as there are places that a car can't go, I rang my sister, niece and best friend and they went looking, after 20 mins couldn't find her, so found Danny and dropped him off at Police Station and decided to come home to see if she had come home by herself, My best friend's son was on his way over to help and he found her about 2.5 klm (2,miles) on the road to East Ballina, on the footpath, I didn't know whether to hug her or smack her as she knew she was in trouble. I was freaking out as she was due to have dinner and her needles at 6pm. Anyway she did get a smack as I have found that it is the only way I can get through to her, I have talk to her when things settled down and she said she wanted to go to school and she was on her way there. (We are on holidays over here) I am still shaken up as I think about what could have happened to her especially with her diabetes, she was 12.7 when I tested her when she got home, which means that her long acting insulin had been used up with all the extra walking she had done. The biggest problem is Jodie doesn't understand what danger she is in especially with her diabetes and how it is life or death situation if we don't find her in time. Jodie has only ever wander a couple of other times, only once since her diabetes, that is why we got security doors, we will be double checking these from now on. , do you have any links we can look at, I have found the disability issue and thought that was great. I would really like to give Jodie some independence but with her having 5 injections a day and her not understanding the consequences of her diabetes I can't as I have to keep her safe. Has anyone got any suggestions of what else I can do. Thanks for listening Trish Mum to Danny(21) and Jodie (18) DS and Type 1 Diabetes and partner of
