She probably panicked and made everything worse by tightening instead of losening the belt. It just shows you how in even a minute things happen. Hope you are both recovering. I know my heart would be racing until next year. Loree **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. Like you hear stories of people getting into accidents and instead of hitting the brake hit the gas harder in panic. Your scenario is so scary I don't even want to think about it. Guest guest
She had it tied just like the beginning of tying her shoe (which she has been working on learning). She evidently pulled the ends really tight. Sure scared us both silly! Guest guest
Wow, I'm SO glad you saw it in time!!! I've been caring for my mom (with other sibs) in her home for her last several months of life. One of the things we had to deal with was: She started taking the belt to her robe and wrapping it around her ankles....tying them together. Then she would get up and walk with it like that. We quickly took those away from her and one of my sisters cut each belt into two pieces and sewed one onto each side of the robe near the side seam. That way she could still have a tie on her wrap around robes. I'm not comparing people with DS to people with dementia....it is SO different.....dealing with DS is MUCH easier than deal with dementia. What they have in common for us is that we always have to be on guard for their safety. I hope you all have a nice Labor Day holiday. Shirley--mom to Josiah 19yo Re: Close call---alert!! Guest guest
Kate was downstairs sleeping, Karrie was in the living room, I was in Karrie's room, cleaning. I usually stick my head into whatever room she is in about every 4 minutes. And yes, my doors are always locked. She was so upset that she started crying as soon as I saw what was going on and undid the x knot she tied. -- Sue

Guest guest
( supposedly normal one ) does this to himself- scares me stupid- he hasn't done it for awhile thank goodness.........I do not know why was doing it- he sometimes also uses his hands to choke himself. He hasn't done it for awhile now though........ Glad Karrie is feeling better- hopefully she wont do it again......
