Guest guest
Group, Okay, yal know (or some of you do) that our Miss was attacked in February by another student in her class. At that time, we got a lawyer from the OK disability law center to come in and work them over at the school. Fast forward to IEP time in May of this year, we asked for a change of placement to another more appropriate classroom. was in a classroom full of children that have no speech and have severe and profound different-abilities. is very verbal and very smart but they chose to put her in there due to her physical limitations. (She also has an additional dx of Cerebral palsy secondary to an intrauterine stroke.) SO, here's the deal...now we go to school on Monday and guess what? They have her in the same classroom as before. We actually had the lawyer on the phone at the IEP meeting in May too. We requested that she be formerly tested to warrant the change of placement. They denied that and decided to go ahead and put her in the other class. SHE IS NOT IN THAT OTHER CLASS NOW!! They also sent a note home on Monday to all the parents of children in this severe/profound classroom and told us that we can't come in the classroom any more at all for anything. We have to wait outside to pick-up our children and we cannot cross " the threshold " as the letter stated. The classroom is in the " back 40 " of the building and there is a circle drive in front of the door. (This school was built 5 years ago, mind you.) SO, we also have to go to the front office and sign them in for school and out early for appointments and wait for someone to bring them to us. We cannot call and talk to the teacher and all communication has to go through the back/forth notebooks. We are not allowed to have siblings in the classroom at all for any reason. BUT, here's the catch, one of the child's parents in the classroom and their siblings get to come in and out of the classroom freely without going through the office. The staff in the classroom also get to bring their kids in the classroom. We were told these new rules were for confidentiality reasons. I have raised SAN with the Principal over this. Does anyone know if this violates civil rights and warrants a OCR (office of civil rights) complaint? I was told by the state dept. today that I would have to have it written in my child's IEP to have access to her. The official told me that I would have to word it as " to ensure the safety of my child, I need access " . I forgot what else she said and yes, I'm a dummy for not writing it down. Okay...enough. Now yal tell me. Thanks in advance for reading and responding!
