Guest guest
Tomorrow, the 14th is the five year anniversary for my daughter Janet's bone marrow transplant. We celebrated tonight because she was with us and tomorrow she will be back in her own apartment living with as much independence as she can master. The leukemia is gone. The fears about complications are and no immune system are gone. Even the immuno-suppressant medication is gone. What we have is a young woman who is healthy and has a remarkable quality of life. She went for a three mile hike today in the 90 degree heat by herself shortly after we got here. We have a nice park with trails up the hills. Tomorrow, she is back to her job helping care for people who have more challenge than she does. Her gift is that she sees them as people and is able to work one-on-one encouraging them to do as much as they can and then helping with what hey can't master. She is the first ever with this agency to do this, but they have started looking for others as well as given her two awards. Rick .. dad to 35 year old Jan who is post a lot of troubles in her late 20's including rare auto-immune disease, stroke, AML with remission and return, and then the blood system from her older brother. Sometimes we tease kindly about her having boy blood.
