Guest guest Posted August 27, 2008 Report Share Posted August 27, 2008 RE: More Social Security Info " Household contribution " seems to be the preferred phrase here-includes a general room & board, utilities, etc. We were told by parents to request about half the amount of the SSI check for this and NOT to call it rent or room and board because then you become the landlord and--as granny notes-end up having to claim it as income. However, you could then deduct some of the costs for repairs and such-anybody doing it that way and finding advantages? Just curious. . . I think you can still change the designation. .
