Guest guest
Brigid, Nick is in 8th grade and currently goes to the resource room for reading, language arts, math and learning skills.? He is in regular ed for WV History, Science, and specialists (health, gym, art, music, tech ed, etc.).? For the academic classes (history/social studies and science) his special ed teacher attends with him and she typically modifies his work after discussing the assignment with the regular ed teacher.? She also typically does his tests.? For the specialists the aide goes with him (I'm not sure exactly who does any modifications he might need there but I'm guessing it is the special ed teacher after the aide makes recommendations, such as Nick can't handle the regular ed assignment). Cari Modifying Homework/classwork I am sure this has been discussed several times and I could go find the archives but being so lazy I thought I would ask again, what are your experiences with teachers modifying classwork? My son is in 8th grade so he has special ed classes that he goes to(reading, writing and math) and he goes to social studies (MN history), earth science and spanish. He also has phy.ed but does ok there. Do you help modify? Does the special ed teacher work with the general ed? Does the general ed teacher do it? Does the para? I have had my son experience all of these at one time or another. I think that is one area that needs a lot of work. There are also instances where the special ed and gen ed teachers work together but I think there needs to be more of this. I am thinking lack of communication appears to be a big problem. What does everyone think about this? Having read your posts over the last couple of weeks, I am discovering you are a wonderful, passionate, caring group of people not afraid to share even though by only emailing and not hearing tone of voice discussions can sometimes be misunderstood (and often the most fun to read!) Bravo to all of you for being gutsy enough to put yourself out there. My kind of crowd! Thanks, Brigid
