Guest guest
Hi Kim, What a terrible situation to be in - sorry I cannot help - different country. Will keep you in my thoughts that all turns out alright. Keep smiling Jan, mother of Trent 24yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Doll, Kim L Sent: Thursday, 2 October 2008 1:16 PM dsala ; ; Upsndowns Cc: Doll, Kim L Subject: Social Services called [Help Needed] Importance: High Hi everyone. I copied a number of groups so I can get as much help as possible. Social Services showed up at my house today. It appears that someone had said that I was harming my child. I have a son, Jordan, who is 13 y/o with DS and PDD-NOS. When I asked who called I was told that I was not able to have that information. When I asked why they were called I was told that someone had said that my son had scratches on his back. When I told the person that Easter Seals must handle my son when he does not get off the bus, this person asked what did I mean by Handle my son and I told her that it means that they physically help my son get off the bus. This means that my son may be scratched by their handling. I also told her that last week at Open House I noticed that they had my son sitting next to a student that had scratched my son in the past and that it was discussed with the YMCA and the students' parents last year. This child had hurt my child in the past but that this was this child's way of trying to get my sons attention. I had asked them to move my son or move the other student. I assumed this was done. Yesterday I received a call from the school because my son was sick. I went to pick him up and noticed that my son had scratches on his face and that he did not have them when the bus picked him up in the morning. So I asked to talk to the principle and told him about the scratches and the Open House and what I had told the teacher. He said to write him a letter. So I started to write the letter this morning and took pictures of my son yesterday and circled the scratches and now all of a sudden I have Social Services at my house. I told this to the person from Social Services. I copied the Communications Log from the school where I asked about the scratches. I printed the letter that I mean to send to the principle with the pictures that I took. All she asked of me was to take my son to the doctor and get the doctor to sign some paperwork. Could this be because I talked to the principle? What should I do about this? Call and discuss the issue with him? File a complaint with someone else? Who else? Please help!!! ~ Thanks! Guest guest
It sure does sound like the school is trying to cover it's butt and that something is going on there that you might not even know about. It is good that you had the communication log etc to show them. At least you have proof that this was a concern of YOURS! Just listening to the story as an outside it sounds like the school is hiding something. Hopefully SS will see the same thing. I know someone on this list will have more useful information with background knowledge. Hang in there. Loree **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges? Guest guest
Kim, Who did Social Service allege was the abuser? If it is unknown, then every person in a care taker role is being questioned like you were. If you believe you are listed as the alleged abuser and you feel it's malicious, then you can talk to the CPS worker and find out how that can be investigated and someone possibly being charged for falsely reporting. Anyway, when you take pictures, start with a close up picture and keep moving back until you can see the injury on your child (his face must be in photo). Take him to the doctor and have medical documentation. Take the pictures with you to the doctors. Make copies of the communication log (or if something significant is shared with you, send in a new one and keep that documentation to yourself). CPS workers hate false reports or when reports fabricate and fluff up their report. Just cooperate-and ask that you be notified with their findings. Do not expect them to release that information until they have done all they need.
Guest guest
Several years ago I was turned in by a worker that was only in my house 3 times. It was obvious that she was the one who turned me in because she was the only one that could have said what she did. What gave it away was she commented that Ben had some scratches on his back and she had helped with his bath. It was a surprise when the worker showed up and I commented to her that Ben's brother and he fight sometimes. They are boys. She commented that they have to go out on ANY complaint within 36 hours. In a roundabout way she made me feel not to worry. My behaviourist wrote a note, anyone who knows you well and can vouch for your character. I know that it was a maliciously done thing. I was also told to drop it because nothing would ever come of it and it would be put on the bottom of a file someplace and forgotten about. Try not to worry too much. M.
