People First Language in response to Fox anchor's incorrect description of Palin's son

Dear Fox News Daytime Anchor,

     On August 29th, just an hour or so before the official annoucement of

McCain's running mate, Palin, you spoke about Palin's family.  In your

description of Palin's family, you mentioned her youngest son, Trig, born

" afflicted " with Down syndrome.  I challenge you and the rest of the

anchors/reporters for Fox news, to read through the above website.  This should

and WILL set you straight on what type of language you should use in reference

to our children.  I say " our " because I am proud to be Mandy Fish's Mom,

who is affected with Down syndrome.  She is a loving, caring and very smart

child that is able to do anything.  Please, refrain from making negative word

choices when speaking about Palin's youngest son.  The whole world is watching

and listening!!  If you start the ball rolling, we can erase the " R " word

(retard), afflicted, crippled and other such terrible misused terminology

associated with our God-given, precious

children.
