Guest guest
Hi Guys, Georgie went to The All Schools State Athletics AWD Championships in Sydney on Sunday. As they ran 10 to 12 Girls events, and she didn't finish in the top 3, I happily came home, after a really full on 3 days. I received a phone call on Thursday morning, telling me that G has been selected in the NSW ( Our state) Team in the 11 girls 100m,200m and shot put events for The Pacific School Games to be held in Canberra at the end of November/early December. These games are huge !! 3800 athletes from all around Australia and the Pacific area. OMG, abled bodied and awd kids at the same event ??? Paraolympics and Special Olympics must be spinning out !! Sorry, politically incorrect, but isn't this the way life should be ???? I was ( and still am blown away !!).That's the good news ! The bad news is that it's $ 700 just to enter, forget travel, accom etc. And we have to be there for a minimum of 5 nights. After a telephone conference between Ross, my dh, Danni, my 19 yr old Gap year kid, my 12 yr old son, myself and no 1 son who's 20 and at Uni, we decided to go for it. As Ben said,' Who needs Christmas anyway ? " I don't know if the 4 yr old twins would agree, but as a family ( one that I'm incredibly proud of,btw), we have decided to do it for Georgie. For a kid with critical illness for the 1st 4 years of her life, forget ds, she's doing ok !!! So, it's off to Canberra we go !!! From a very proud and still blown away mum, Aussie PS For all my Aussie Mates, I have been given $ 1200 worth of raffle tix to sell to offset the costs of going. They are $ 2 each and all the prizes are The Good Guys Vouchers, so if you would like to buy one please email me offlist at amandabartlett@.... I 'm incredibly good at fundraising for other people, but I just don't know how to do it effectively for my daughter,I just think that it's too much to ask for one child. PPS I have just found out that she was the only kid with ds selected in the team !!!
