Guest guest
Hi : We do have a current group member, , Rhiannon's mom who is currently using the Craniocap from Dr. Wood. She is very active in the group so I'm sure she'll reply to your inquiry. I am glad that you'll be receiving a 2nd opinion about 's head shape. I hope Dr. Wood will help you & address your concerns. When is 's appt with Dr. Wood? Please let us know how it goes. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Has anyone seen Dr. Wood at Gillette Children's Hospital in > Minnesota? Guest guest
Hello: My daughter, Rhiannon, is a patient of Dr. Wood's at Gillette Children's. She is 4 months old and this is her 3rd week in the CranioCap. I think that you will appreciate Dr. Wood's expert advice and straightforwardness, but be ready with your questions as he is a busy guy and works fast. About my experience with the CranioCap, well it's a mixed bag. On the one hand, Rhia's head is rounding out pretty well in the back as she has hit a couple of growth spurts, but on the other hand I am not so hot about the orthotist we see. I am concerned that she " has never seen the ears come into alignment " and that the CranioCap " does not improve facial assymetries " as the DOC band folks claim theirs does. Is this just a Marketing ploy? Or is it really true? My baby has some issues with assymetry and forhead bossing, and the CranioCap just doesn't seem to be working on those issues, and I have been told that it won't. I just don't know what to believe or who's right, but my gut feeling is to at least check out the DOC band. So, right now I have an appointment with the DOC folks in Madison, Wisconsin to find out more about their product and will have to make a very important decision. In the meantime, I am talking to Dr. Wood tomorrow about some of my concerns. Good luck with your meeting with Dr. Wood, and let us know what you decide. Or is it really true? My baby has some issues with assymetry and forhead bossing, and the CranioCap just doesn't seem to be working on those issues, My son has facial asymetry and is in a DOCband. His eyes are looking much better (one was bigger than the other), also, the left side of his forehead was much more prominent, and when I compare the face/head mold they did of him and his head now at each appointment, I can tell his forehead is coming out and looking more like the other side. He also has ear misalignment- which has not improved yet. The therapist at CT tells me that facial asymetry and ear misalignment is caused from them having a tight neck muscle (my son has mild tort) and that only the neck exercises will correct this completely. Good luck to you and hope you get your questions answered at your appointment! Charleen(Texas)

Guest guest
Thanks Debbie! I didn't see the original post as I didn't check in for a couple of days and the original post moved to " previous page " . Thanks for your reply as I wouldn't have seen it otherwise! What a great thing to have such an active group! Kind regards, , Rhiannon's mom > > Has anyone seen Dr. Wood at Gillette Children's Hospital in > > Minnesota? They are the makers of the CranioCap. Guest guest
: Thanks so much for your reply. does have some mild facial assymetry also. We live in South Dakota and are nowhere near any of the DOC band clinics, otherwise, I would definitely check into the DOC band. Hopefully we will get some guidance from Dr. Wood. We have already seen several doctors, including a pediatric neurosurgeon, who have all advised us that it will round out on its own. I am just not sure what to do and thought that it would be beneficial to see a doctor who believes in the use of helmets to see what his opinion would be. Thanks again. Guest guest
, I can answer your question about whether the DOC band corrects forehead bossing and facial assymetry. The answer is YES! My little Sara did not really have any flat spots, so to speak, but she definitely had bossing and assymetry. She will be graduating next Tuesday, after only 6 weeks in her band, and to me she looks perfect. I think timing has a lot to do with it. She was banded at 5.5 months and hit a big growth spurt the week she got the band. We are so fortunate. Sam also had bossing and assymetry, though not as bad as Sara, and his is also corrected. Now if we could just get that flat spot behind his ear to just round out, then everything would be great. Anyway, if you aren't happy with the craniocap, it wouldn't hurt to check out the DOC band. I don't think this is true. My daughter did not have torticollis, but did have very misaligned ears and facial asymmetry. The DOC Band did correct this (ears are just slightly off now, after being about an inch off), and we did not go to physio or do stretches at home. I do believe that tort can emphasize facial assy., but is not the only factor involved.
