Helen:

I was curious how repositioning is going with your daughter? Have

you had any luck with any repositioning products? You have an appt

with a specialist Friday, May 10 right? Please let us know how that

goes. I hope you've had success with repositioning thus far! Good

luck Friday, please keep us updated.

I had my appointment with my daughter last Friday. We saw Dr.

Proctor at the Childrens Hospital in Boston (whom I found through

this site!). He measured her head and told me that he felt she was

fairly advanced and that even with repositioning, it was unlikely we

would have great results. So he wrote a prescription for a helmet

and before I knew it my daughter was covered in plaster being casted

for a helmet at NOPCO. I wasn't expecting it that very day so I was

a little stressed. But the man at NOPCO who did the fitting was

incredibly nice and very helpful. I was really happy I decided to

bring her to be looked at now instead of waiting. They were very

enthusiastic about her young age (4 1/2 months now) since she is

likely to get good results. I was told that she may be able to wear

the helmet for 2 months full time and then possibly just at night

after that for 2 more months? She gets her helmet next Friday. I'm

just a little concerned about her somewhat sensitive skin, the hot

weather coming, and if she will have trouble sleeping in it at

first. We are also doing neck stretches although the Dr. felt that

she didn't seem to have too much of a problem with that.

I have an appointment with her regular ped. this afternoon and I

feel a little bad that I never even consulted her. I just made an

appointment with a specialist and went. I don't need a referral for

my insurance. I have no idea whether the helmet will be covered or

not. I know the plagio website recommends waiting for an answer from

your insurance before getting the helmet but I just didn't want to

let them be the boss of my daughter's treatment. If that means I

pick up the tab, so be it. I will of course try to get them to cover

at least some.

Thanks so much for your help and I will be sure to update after

we get the helmet!

Helen:

I am sorry that you didn't have better success with repositioning,

but am happy to hear that the casting was done so fast & all went

well! It might be better that you didn't know ahead of time she'd be

casted, that way you didn't stress too much about it for a week in

advance ;).

Thanks so much for the update. Please let us know when her helmet is

in Fri & how Grace adjusts to it. I am sure she'll sleep fine in it

& all will be fine.

Good luck Fri!

Hi Helen! Sounds like you really have things rolling now - wow - good work!!

I think given your daughter's young age you have a great chance of seeing

excellent improvement pretty quickly.

I hope that you will let us know how the helmet fitting goes on Friday - I

think you will be truly amazed at how quickly Grace adjusts. Keep us posted!

Helen,

So good to hear from you again and sorry that the repositioning did not work

for you in " fixing' the problem, but I'm sure it helped greatly in keeping it

from progressing any further. As you know the repositioning is hard work,

and your a great mom for doing as much as you could in that regard. Many of

us have found that repositioning did not correct what had already begun,

despite our best efforts, and I think you will feel a great sense of relief

when you start seeing those results from the helmet! Grace will do just

fine, and please keep us posted with her progress! Good luck!
