Guest guest
i am now in canada and here thanksgiving was earlier, the second monday in october. since i just moved here a week after that i missed it this year. in germany where i used to live thanksgiving came and went in october without anyone really taking notice. the day gets mentioned in church and thats about it. it is not a holiday. since i missed it this year here in canada i really can't say what is going on. when i grew up here millions of years ago, thanksgiving came and went without anyone really making much of it. we talked about it in school and that was about it. i know some of the other kids families had visitors but it wasn't really anything big. i think it really is the US that makes a big holiday of it ) so no recipes from me, sorry. gundula ---- Ok...even for those who are not in the US or Canada (whose Thanksgiving day is on a different day)...I'd love to hear from any who are from other countries and have a similar holiday. Guest guest
I’ll add my little bit although Thanksgiving is not part of the Australian culture. What am I thankful for - I am thankful that Trent went to New Zealand with his day program and basically it was a disaster of a trip - with him not being happy. The fact that he didn’t speak to us for two days on his return and the horrible behaviour which followed, hasten my decision to change service providers. Consequently, he had longer than the usual 1 week term break, which settled him a lot then off to St. ce. Not only do I now have my ‘cheeky, pain in the backside’, I am not as stressed, blood pressure down considerably and Trent is extremely happy - up early of a morning and ready to leave well before we need to. In complete contrast to the last couple of years, where I have on his back from the moment he got out of bed until we left the house at the very latest time to get into Geelong. Trent is a delight to be around again - he happily goes to bed of a night although he still has to be last, no more sitting up for ages after us. Talking more and instigating conversations - such a different person. Naturally there are others things that have happened throughout the year which I am thankful for but the above has been the greatest. Guest guest
Dressing - homemade cornbread, chicken stock, onions and celery, sage. My favorite part - when we first sit down, and the look of anticipation, and gratitude on everyone's face. Family traditions - what we call a fruit salad. It does have fruit in it, but also whipping cream and marshmallows. We usually eat around 4 pm. We didn't travel this year. I am a very fortunate person, I have so much to be thankful for - a beautiful family, wonderful friends, a good job for both me and my husband, and so much more. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Sharon H.
